국문 초록

김남천의 장편소설 『사랑의 수족관』은 식민지 말기의 세태를 핍진하게 담아낸 세태소설로 규정되어 왔다. 하지만 본고는 『사랑의 수족관』의 ‘세태성’이 사회 전체를 반영하지 않는다는 점에 주목하였다. 이 소설은 유산계급, 체제순응자들의 세계에 초점을 맞춰 당대 조선사회를 재현한다. 소설에서 지리적 거리는 곧 정서적 친밀성의 거리를 나타낸다. 이경희와 김광호의 연애에서 지리적 거리가 멀어졌을 때 관계 또한 악화되었으며, 그들이 모든 장애를 극복하고 혼약을 맺었을 때, 지리적 거리는 가장 가까워졌다. 지리적 인접성에 기반한 주류계급의 카르텔이 형성된 것이다. 또한 소설에서 무산계급, 노동자의 세계는 극히 제한적으로만 재현된다. 무산계급 인물은 신주사처럼 주류계급이 되기를 욕망하거나, 강현순처럼 주류계급에게 이용당하고 버려질 뿐이다. 이경희의 탁아소 건립 계획은 비정치적 사회사업으로 위장되지만, 실은 일본 군국주의의 팽창과 깊은 관련을 맺고 있다. 탁아소가 입지한 신길정은 ‘경인일체’ 정책에 따라 군수공업지대로 개발되는 지역의 일부이다

영문 초록

Kim, Nam—cheon(金南天)'s novel Sarang—eui sujokwan(The aquarium of love) has been defined as the realistic reflection of social conditions of terminal colonial ages of Korea(1937~1945). But the novel represented social conditions of those ages merely focusing on the world of rich, powerful, and Japanese collaborators. In the novel, short geographical distances between characters means their emotional intimacy. In case of Yi, Kyong—hui and Kim, Kwang—ho, when they fell off thousands of kilometers, their romantic relationship was worst. However, when they got engaged finally, geographical distances between them was the shortest. Also In the novel, poor people and their communities were only represented very restrictively. Poor characters desired to be a mainstream class, but they never achieved a goal. They only fall a victim to a risk of exploitation by a mainstream class. Yi, Kyong—hui's plan of establishing the child—care center was a part of expansionary policy for Japanese militarism and fascism actually, even though the plan was disguised as a non—political public welfare service. Sin—giljung, a town that decided as a location of the child—care center in the novel, was a part of sites that had been developed as ammunítion ìndustry districts by Japanese colonial authorities in those ages.
