현대 도예의 표현 매체로서 전사기법의 활용에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 현대도예의 다양한 표현 기법들 중에서 특히 산업혁명과 함께 발전된 전사기법의 종류 및 제작방법과 함께 이러한 기법들을 실제 작품 제작에 적용하여 창의적이고 조형성 있는 새로운 예술양식으로 발전시킨 현대 도예가들 특히, 석고틀의 사용과 함께 전사기법을 예술적 표현의 영역으로 끌어들임으로써 '전통적 수공성'으로부터의 해방을 주장한 하워드 코틀러의 작품을 비롯하여 포토-실크스크린 전사기법을 사용하여 일상적인 물건들을 흙으로 재현함으로써 트롱플뢰이유(trompel'oeil) 풍의 초현실주의적 아트 오브제를 실현한 리쳐드 쇼우, 공예품과 명화를 도자접시에 전사된 이미지로 재현함으로써 고전적인 상징성을 상실시키고 관찰자 스스로가 의미를 부여하고 해석할 수 있도록 유도 한 마렉 세큘라, 전통적 공예기법과 형태를 유지하면서 개인적 혹은 사회적 문제들을 접목시킴으로써 구태의연한 전통적 방식의 답습을 비판하고 도자예술의 고전적 상징성을 파괴한 그레이슨 페리, 그리스도기와 같은 익숙한 형태의 용기들을 사용함으로써 도자기가 자유로운 표현형식으로 새롭게 태어날 수 있는지를 실천한 리차드 밀레와 플라스틱 용기를 산업용 석고틀을 이용하여 도자기로 복제 및 재생산함으로써 복제화 되고 대량생산 된 존재에 감성을 부여하고자 한 이안 앤더슨의 작품 등 7인의 현대도예가의 작품을 고찰하였다. 전사기법은 산업도자의 생산 현장에서 적극적으로 활용되는 것에 비해 소규모 공방이나 개인 작업실 등을 바탕으로 한 창작의 영역에서는 아직까지 한정되게 알려져 있어 처음 이러한 기법을 시도해 보려는 초보자에게나 예술적 표현의 수단으로 작품에 응용해 보려는 작가들에게 충분히 이론적이고 실제적인 정보를 주지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문의 도입부에서는 전사기법의 역사와 함께 기법의 종류 및 표현방식을 서술하여 제작 과정 전반을 이해하고 실제 작업에 활용 및 응용 할 수 있도록 하였으며, 중심부에서는 시대적인 맥락 속에서의 전사기법의 의미를 이해하고 예술적 표현 수단으로 적극적으로 활용한 현대도예가의 구체적인 작품 사례를 통해 각각의 형식과 내용이 어떤 특징과 의미를 담고 있는지 살펴봄으로써 현대 도예의 조형언어로서 전사기법의 가능성을 타진하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The development of expression technique of colored pigments due to industrialization of ceramics resulted in extension of artistic expression beyond the limit of ceramic decoration in the traditional format. In addition, since the abstract expressionism ceramics of the 1950s, contemporary ceramics has been practicing the introduction and the dismantling genre of various representations such as exploration of physical properties of clay and fire, pursuit of monumentality and installation work. This is a very complex and diverse phenomenon which can not be understood the ceramics only as traditional crafts, tools and products that necessary to everyday life. Contemporary ceramics artists take advantage of ceramics as a means of important medium of expression for imparting meaning while emphasizing their intentions. In order to build its own sculptural area through new representation, it destroys the original format of pottery and communes with all areas of the art. By this, a new identity of contemporary ceramics has re-established. In this study, the variety and manufacturing method of decal techniques, one of several representation techniques of contemporary ceramics which was developed in conjunction with the Industrial Revolution, was and introduced, and contemporary ceramic artists who applied this technique to the actual art work and develop them into a new art form were investigated. Decal technique is still limited in the creation of regions based on small workshops or individual studio compared to those that are actively utilized in the production site of industrial ceramics because theoretical and practical information is not given enough to both artists, who want to use as a means of artistic expression, and beginners who want to try such an approach. Therefore, in the introduction of this study, the history of decal techniques, types and expression methods are described in order to understand the production process in general for utilizing the actual work and to be able to apply, in main body, through a concrete work examples of contemporary ceramic artists who have actively utilized the decal techniques as artistic expression means while understanding meaning in the context of an era, and the possibility of the decal technique as a sculptural language of contemporary ceramics are proved by examining each example's meanings and characteristics in form and content of work.
