어보(御寶)를 활용한 스카프 디자인 개발

국문 초록

어보(御寶)는 왕실의 권위를 대표하는 상징물이다. 어보는 궁중예술의 절정체로써 조선 전 시대에 걸친 미적 흐름을 살펴 볼 수 있다는 면에서 미술사적 가치가 높다고 사료된다. 본고는 어보를 미적 측면에서 연구함에 있어 우선 그 상징체계와 특징을 함께 논하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 어보의 의미와 역사를 고찰하고, 그 형태와 문양, 문자와 수(數) 등이 가지는 상징적 의미를 정리해보았다. 어보는 왕실의 권위를 상징하기 위한 정통성과 뛰어난 조형성을 가지고 있다. 어보의 상징체계는 조선시대의 정신성이 담긴 여러 가지 매개물, 즉 손잡이로 신수(神獸)인 용과 거북이를 활용하고 또한 색과 수 등을 통해 왕권의 정통성, 절대성과 왕조의 영원함, 안녕을 기원하는 주술적 의미를 포함하고 있다. 외형미는 왕실예술의 장식성과 고급스러운 형태를 표현하고 있다. 특히, 최근에는 전각예술로써의 어보에 대한 관심이 더해지면서 현대적 디자인 상품의 활용을 위한 다양한 시도들을 보이고 있다. 본 연구자는 한국 전통문화 양식 중에 대표적 이미지라 할 만한 '어보'의 상징성을 디자인 요소로 모색하였다. 특히 어보의 인면(印面(=도장면))에서 보여지는 조형요소를 응용하여 현대 라이프스타일에 적용될 수 있는 텍스타일 상품인 스카프를 디자인함으로써, 한국의 차별화된 이미지 개발에 그 목적을 두고자 하였다. 특히, 반복문양이 가지고 있는 영원성이라는 의미를 왕조의 영원함을 표현하는 어보의 상징내포와 연관 지어 보았다. 이러한 반복문양을 스카프 제작에 적용하여 기존 스카프의 상하좌우 대칭형 문양배치 외에 텍스타일 디자인으로 제안하게 되었다. 궁극적으로는 전통이미지를 활용하여 패션 소품인 스카프 디자인을 개발ㆍ상품화할 수 있다는 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Royal seals of Joseon period are representative symbolic objects that indicate royal authority. Royal seals, the height of royal arts, have very high art historical value because of its aesthetic process throughout Joseon period. This study, first, examined symbolic system and characteristic about royal seals in its aesthetic aspects. For this researching, considered concept and history of royal seals and its symbolic meaning of form, pattern, letter, and number. Royal seals have legitimacy and outstanding formativeness for signifying royal absolute authority. The symbolic system uses various media reflected Joseon ideology. For examples, the handgrip of royal seals are made of spiritual animals -dragon, turtle- also include shamanistic meaning that prays for royal absoluteness, legitimacy, eternity, peace through color, number and so on. The beauty of appearance shows decorativeness and classy form of royal arts. Especially, now the attention to royal seals as seal engraving-arts is increasing, so various attempt is appeared for using contemporary design goods. I would find out the symbol of royal seals, which is typical image among Korean traditional culture styles, as a design element. Especially, this study was aimed the differencing development of Korean image by designing textile scarf was able to use today's life style through applied formative element on royal seals' surface. The eternity of repetitive pattern in particular was connected to symbolic connotation of royal seals expressed perpetuation of the Joseon dynasty. By applying this repetitive pattern to scarf design, this study was proposed the textile designs, in addition to the up down left right side-symmetrical configuration of existing scarf patterns. Finally, this research was an attempt for suggesting development and commercialization way of scarf design as fashion accessories by utilizing traditional image.
