국문 초록

본 연구는 관광목적지의 관리 상태 측정을 위한 최적화지수의 개발과정과 그 적합성을 설명하는데 주목적이 있다. 최적화 과정은 수학적 이론에 그 근거를 두고 있으며 최근 관광분야에서 지속가능 관광의 문제점을 극복하기 위한 대안으로 활용되고 있다. 15개의 최적화 지수가 지속가능 관광 분야에서 발전된 형태로 제안되었으며 그 지수들의 적합성 검증이 실증적인 사례조사를 통해 실시되었다. 이 연구의 주요내용은 첫째, 현재의 지속가능 관광이 갖고 있는 개념적 논란과 두 가지 핵심요소인 관광목적지의 수용능력(carrying capacity)과 위험노출성(vulnerability)이 가지고 있는 중요성과 문제점에 대해 알아보고, 둘째, 지속가능 관광과 최적화에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 관광목적지의 최적화 상태를 측정하는 지수의 개발과정 그리고 활용에 대한 검증을 실시한다. 셋째, 15개의 최적화 지수를 도출하고 군집분석(Cluster)과 MDS(Multi-dimensional Scaling)을 통해 실질적인 데이터를 활용하여 지수의 중요도를 기준으로 최적화 수준에 맞게 그룹화하고 전략적 관리 방향을 제시한다. 제주에서 실시된 전문가 조사 및 관광이해관계자 조사를 통해서 관광목적지의 관리 상태를 나타내주는 최적화지수의 적합성이 검증되었으며 최적화된 관광목적지가 되기 위해서는 지수들의 수준에 따라 전략적인 관리가 필요함을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

This study explains a development process of optimisation indicators for tourism destination. Optimization process is rooted in theories taken from the fields of mathematics and recently applied to tourism studies for overcoming sustainable tourism issues 15 optimization indicators were proposed through the application of sustainable tourism and verified the appropriateness of the indicators by the case study in Jeju Island. In this paper, firstly, the present sustainable tourism development issues on definitions, carrying capacity and vulnerability are discussed Secondly, the development and use of indicators based on sustainability and optimization are examined. Thirdly, 15 optimization indicators are identified and classified their level by actual data on the basis of the results from cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling(MDS). The results imply that indicators are appropriate to show a destinations's status and there is a need to manage indicators strategically based on their level.
