국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 다양한 인간의 행동을 설명하고 예측하는 이론적 틀인 Fishbein과 Ajzen의 계획행동이론을 적용하여 마카오를 방문하는 중국인 카지노 갬블링 참여자를 대상으로 카지노 갬블리에 대한 행동의도의 주요 선행변수들 간의 구조적 관계를 분석하기 위함이다. 카지노 갬블링 의도를 예측 또는 설명하기 위한 주요 선행변수로 계획행동이론 모델의 주요 종속변수인 태도, 주관적 규범, 지각된 행동통제 세 변수를 선행연구에서 도출된 측정도구를 갬블링 컨덱스트에 맞춰 수정하여 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 카지노 갬블링 의도에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인들의 상호영향관계에 대한 구조방정식 분석결과, 계획행동이론에서 설명하는 구성 개념들 간의 상호 관계와 일치하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 카지노 갬블링 참여자가 카지노 갬블리에 대한 호의적인 태도를 가질수록 카지노 갬블링에 대한 사회적 압력이 높으며 주관적 규범과 같은 내적 조건이 형성된다. 또한 카지노 갬블링을 통제할 수 있는 능력과 다양한 기회와 시간이 주어질 때 지속적인 카지노 갬블링 참여의도가 높아짐을 알 수 있다. 이러한 주요 선행변수들 중에서 특히 주관적 규범은 행동의도를 설명하는 데 가장 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 태도와 주관적 행동통제 또한 중요한 선행변수로서 캠블링 의도를 잘 설명하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 통하여 계획행동이론 모형이 카지노 갬블링 참여자의 행동 의도를 예측하고 설명할 수 있는 적합한 모델임을 입증함과 동시에 카지노 갬블링 등과 같은 소비자 의사 결정 과정 및 행동 과정을 설명할 때 충분한 설명력이 있는 모델임을 보여준다 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the structural relationship among important determinants of behavioral intention toward casino gambling, based on the Fishbein and Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior by using a data set administerd among Chinese gamblers visiting Macao. The results of the structural equation modeling of this study confirms that the TPB is useful, as found in other leisure contexts, in explaining the intention to gamble. The result clearly indicates that beliefs on gambling is a strong precedent to attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, which are important determinants of behavioral intention to gamble. Among these determinants, subjective norms is the most important factor, exerting the largest effect on behavioral intention to gamble in the future, which is a reliable proxy indicator of actual behavior. Attitude and perceived behavioral control are also significant factors in predicting gambling intention. The results are consistent with previous studies that applied TPB in various settings. This study makes a meaningful contribution to the exiting literature of leisure research, and provides useful insight into the marketing organizations in casino industry, not just in Macao but also in other countries where the gaming industry is growing.
