국문 초록

본고는 18c 생활일기 頤齋亂藁 를 통해 호남사족 黃胤錫의 京科 응시 이력을 살폈다. 鄕儒 황윤석이 24~46세까지 총 26차례 응시한 京科는1759년의 식년 소과 외에 모두 庭試 ･節日製･謁聖試 등이었다. 이는 각종 비정기시험이 남설되던 당시의 시대상에 딱 부합되는 양상이다. 이재는 총 26회의 京科에서 소과 입격을 제외하고는 모두 見敗하였고, 48세로 지방의 東堂試에 낙방한 뒤로는 더 이상 과거에 응시하지 않았다. 세월에 따른 老衰, 淸要職 진출의 희망 상실, 부친의 별세 등은 廢科의 가장 큰 이유였다. 또 登科 이외에 수령이 되는 길이 별도로 존재했으며, 급제에 대한 기대치 저하와 잇따른 落科의 민망함 등도 한 몫 하여, 이재 황윤석은 1776년 48세로 마침내 廢科하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine how Hwang Yoon Seok who was a man of noble family in the Honam region participated in Gyeongwa [the state examination held in the capital]. For this purpose, this author reviewed a life diary written in the 18th century, that is, Yijaenango . Gyeonggwa that Hwang Yoon-seok who was a local Confucian scholar took 26 times in total were all irregular events including Jeongsi, Jeolilje and Alseongsi, except Sogwa as the first state of Siknyeonsi held in 1759. This clearly indicates that at that time, a diversity of irregular tests were created and implemented. Yijae took Gyeonggwa 26 times in total, but failed except in the first stage of the test, that is, Sogwa. At last, he didn’t apply for the state examination any more since he failed in a local test titled Dongdangsi when he was 48. Aging over time, no hope for being an official of integral position and father’s death were the biggest reason why he gave up the application. Besides, the existence of other ways to be an official than passing the state examination, less expectations about the passing and the feelings of embarrassment from frequent failure at the state test considerably contributed to his final decision to stop challenge Gyeonggwa at the age of 48 in 1776.
