국문 초록

본 연구는 초ㆍ중ㆍ고등 교육 현장에서 실행된 봉사활동 및 봉사학습 관련 국내외 연구논문들을 선정 기준에 의해 수합하여 봉사학습의 참여학생 배경 특성, 내용, 효과 및 과제 측면에서 분석하고 봉사학습 활성화를 위한 제언을 제시하였다. 1995년부터 2014년까지 지난 20년간 출판된 국내외 논문 25편을 최종 선정하여 분석 기준들을 적용하여 연구결과를 산출하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 연구참여자 배경특성은 국내외 모두 초ㆍ중ㆍ고등학교 모든 학교급에서 봉사학습을 실시한 것으로 나타났다. 비장애학생과 장애학생이 통합되어 실행한 연구는 25편 중 4편이었다. 참여한 장애학생들의 장애유형은 주로 정서ㆍ행동장애였으며 그 외 지적장애, 자폐성장애로 나타났다. 둘째, 단계별로는 대부분의 연구가 봉사학습계획을 체계적으로 세운 것으로 나타났다. 사전준비단계에서는 지역사회 요구 조사, 교육과정과 연계, 봉사활동에 필요한 기술 습득을 주로 하였으며, 봉사활동 내용은 위문활동이나 일손돕기의 지역사회 봉사활동이 주를 이루었고, 국외의 경우 캠페인 활동도 활발하였다. 평가단계에서는 양적자료와 질적자료를 병행하여 평가를 실시하였으며 국외는 참여학생들과의 면담을 포함하여 다면적인 평가와 분석이 이루어지고 있었다. 셋째, 봉사활동의 대표적 효과는 타인에 대한 존중, 자신감, 양보, 친절, 의사소통 및 갈등해결 능력, 민주시민 의식, 협력의 향상이었다. 이 봉사학습의 결과들은 우리나라 인성교육 핵심덕목들을 잘 반영하고 있었다. 봉사학습은 모든 학생들을 위한 인성교육의 효과적인 한 방안이며, 통합교육 맥락에서 의미 있고 효과적인 교육적 접근이 될 것으로 기대되며, 봉사학습의 활성화를 위해서는 이를 효과적으로 수행할 교사들의 준비와 지역사회기관들과의 연계와 교육부와 교육지원청의 행정적 및 재정적 지원이 필요하다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to select the articles on service activities or service learning conducted in elementary and secondary schools based on the predetermined criteria, to analyze them in terms of the participants' characteristics, contents, outcomes, and tasks, and to propose future directions of service learning. Twenty-five articles published between 1995 and 2014 were selected and analyzed. The results were as follows. In terms of participants, both elementary and secondary students participated in service learning activities. Especially, the inclusive service learning where both students with and without special needs participated in was reported in 4 articles among the 25 selected ones. The disability types of the participating students were emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder. In terms of the contents and phases, most studies demonstrated systematic planning process. In preparation phase, assessing community needs, connecting the activities with curriculum, and having the participants learn the required skills were conducted. The services for the community was the most frequent content of the activities and the campaign activities were used mostly in the foreign studies. For the evaluation phase, both quantitative and qualitative data were used. Especially, multi-faceted methods including interviews with the participants were used in the foreign studies. In terms of the outcomes, respect, self-confidence, concession, kindness, communication and conflict resolution abilities, citizenship, and collaboration were the most representative outcomes of the studies. In conclusion, service learning is expected to become a significant educational approach in inclusive education settings as well as an effective way of character education. In order to facilitate service learning, the teacher preparation programs regarding service learning, collaboration among schools and community agencies, and the support from the Ministry of Education and local school districts would be essential.
