경도 지적장애 아동의 간접 화행 이해 특성

국문 초록

상황 맥락과 대화를 추론하여 화자의 의도를 파악하는 것은 의사소통에서 중요한 부분이다. 본 연구에서는 여러 상황과 맥락적 정보를 활용하여 해석해야하는 간접 화행 이해 과제를 통해 경도 지적장애 아동의 의사소통 능력을 파악하고자 하였다. 언어연령이 7~9세에 해당하는 경도 지적장애 아동 15명과 언어연령을 일치시킨 일반 아동 15명에게 간접 화행 이해 과제를 실시하였다. 연구과제는 상황 맥락이 포함된 짧은 문장과 화자의 실제 대화 문장으로 구성하였다. 연구 결과, 경도 지적장애 아동은 동일한 언어 수준을 가지고 있는 일반 아동과 비교하여 간접 화행을 이해하는데 어려움을 보였다. 오반응 유형을 분석한 결과, 두 집단 모두 문자 그대로 해석한 보기를 선택한 비율이 높았으나 경도 지적장애 아동의 경우 관련성이 약한 보기를 선택한 비율이 언어연령일치 일반 아동 집단보다 높은 경향이 있었다. 이를 통해 경도 지적장애 아동은 언어연령일치 일반 아동과 비교하여 간접 화행 이해에 어려움을 겪을 수 있음을 예상할 수 있다. 따라서 이를 고려하여 경도 지적장애 아동을 평가하고 중재해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

To reason a situational context and conversation and understand the speaker's intention is an important part of communication. The purpose of this study was to assess communicative competence of children with mild intellectual disability on the basis of their understanding of indirect speech acts that might require them to use several situations and contextual information to interpret. This study was conducted in a total of 30 persons―15 fourth- to sixth-graders with mild intellectual disability, whose language age ranged from 7 to 9, and 15 normal first- to third-graders that matched language age―who were provided with a task of understanding indirect speech acts. To assess the ability to understand indirect speech acts, items made of the speaker's conversation in practice and short sentences containing situational contexts constituted the task. The results of this study are as follows: First, statistically significant inter-group differences were found in the task of understanding indirect speech acts: the children with mild intellectual disability had more difficulty in understanding indirect speech acts than the normal children. Second, while there was no statistically significant inter-group difference in the understanding by indirect speech acts sentence type, the children with mild intellectual disability scored lower for the understanding of declarative sentences than the normal children. Third, while both the children with mild intellectual disability and the normal children were more likely to choose the example of literal interpretation, the former group also tended to choose the example with weak relevance in many cases. On the basis of these results, the children with mild intellectual disability are expected to have difficulty in the process of understanding and reasoning indirect speech acts; taking this into account, it is necessary to assess and give an intervention to them.
