김영주 미술비평에서의 교육성에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 우리나라 근현대에 한국미술평론가협회 초대 대표와 홍익대학교와 중앙 대학교 교수였던 김영주의 여러 비평을 중심으로 미술의 제 성향들을 살펴보고 그의 비평이 한국 현대 미술 발전과 형성에 좋은 교육적인 효과와 영향을 주었음을 밝히고자 하였다. 그는 1995년 작고할 때까지 1950년 대 이후의 열악하기만 했던 미술의 현장을 예리한 시각에서 비평을 하고 당시 미술이 나아가야할 방향 등을 제시하였는가 하면 국전의 폐단 등을 날카롭게 지적하기도 하였다. 그의 이러한 비평적인 관점은 후학들에게 훌륭한 교육적인 표본이 될 수 있었다. 당시는 한국전쟁 이후의 사회는 혼란 스러웠을 뿐만 아니라 관리들의 비리와 이념 대립이 더욱 기승을 부리는 상황이었다. 이런 극한 상황에서 현장 미술을 보다 이론적으로 체계화시켜가며, 한국 미술의 여러 문제에 대해 언급한 그의 글은 시기적절했을 뿐만 아니라 한 사람의 깨어있는 미술인이자 교육자이며 미술평론가로서 매우 유용했다고 할 수 있다. 이처럼 그는 전쟁 이후 혼란기의 한국 미술계에서 문제의식과 문화미술을 통한 사회 참여를 유도하고자 노력 하였으며, 잠자는 미술인들에게 새로운 시대정신을 부여하고자 부단히 노력하였다. 그는 문화와 미술을 통해 사회를 보다 원활하게 소통시킬 수 있으며 문화 사회에 의해서 배양된 인간의 생활은 보다 현실적이며 생산적일 수 있음을 암시하였다. 그는 문화의 중요성을 그 어떤 미술인보다 더 철저히 자각한, 소신과 사상을 지닌 교육자적 미술인이었다.
