영문 초록

Social isolation is a common characteristic among the elderly these days. This study examined to test the role of dining out leisure activity as mediators in the social isolation and happiness among elderly. The subjects of this study were 347 people over 65 years old around Seoul and Gyeonggi province area. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. The statistical significance was tested by SPSS 18.0, AMOS 18.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, education level, surviving spouse, number of eat-out, residential type, economic level were significantly associated with subjective happiness. Second, social isolation of the elderly did show the direct relationship to happiness. Third, dining out leisure activity worked as mediators between social isolation and happiness. The implications and limitations of these findings were discussed, and directions for future studies were also proposed.
