국문 초록

본 연구는 장애아동의 긍정적 기여가 부모의 양육부담에 미치는 영향을 탐구하여 장애아동 양육의 긍정적 측면의 중요성을 환기하고, 장애가족의 양육부담을 경감할 수 있는 실천적 함의를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 만 18세 미만의 장애아동을 양육하고 있는 부모620명을 대상으로 설문조사 결과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 장애아동의 긍정적 기여 중 긍정적 정서와 사회적 관심이 양육 부담에 영향을 미치는 것을 발견하였으며, 긍정적 정서가 양육부담감을 감소시키는 주요 요인임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 함께 인구사회학적 특성 중에서는 가구소득과 아동의 연령, 장애관련 특성에서는 돌봄 시간, 일상생활 수행정도, 추가비용의 지출이 양육부담에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 토대로 장애아동가족의 양육부담을 경감시키기 위한 실천적 방안으로 장애아동의 긍정적 기여에 대한 강점중심의 접근이 필요하며, 돌봄 및 경제적 부담을 경감할 수 있는 실질적인 지원정책과 함께 장애정도와 생애주기를 고려하는 것이 필요함을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Much is known about the hardship associated with parenting a child with disability, but few studies have examined the broader contributions of the child to family life. The primary purpose of this article was to investigate the effects of positive contribution made by disabled children in the family on parenting burden. It also aimed to draw practical implications to mitigating the difficulties of raising a disabled child. Participants of this study were 620 parents of disabled children under age of 18. Results of this study revealed that contribution made by disabled children, especially positive emotion was the significant factor to reduce the burden of parenting them. The results also showed that family income, the age of child, the length of daily care, the degree of performance of routine activities, additional costs related to disabilities had effects on parental burden of raising a disabled child. Based upon these findings, this study suggested that the effective family support services should be further developed and expanded in order to mitigate the difficulties the parents experienced. The findings also informed that following research on parenting a disabled child should focus on the nature of positive contribution made by the child, as well as the difficulties the parents experience.
