린드만 성인교육론의 사회과학 방법적 검토

국문 초록

이제까지 성인교육에 관한 에드워드 린드만(Eduard Lindeman)의 아이디어는 존 듀이의 경험 이론을 성인교육에 적용하였다는 점을 강조하여 경험학습이라는 교육방법의 측면에서 주로 설명되어 왔다. 그 결과 성인교육을 사회행동의 도구로 간주하는 그의 아이디어는 교육방법으로 왜곡되어 이해되었고, 동시에 사회행동의 측면 역시 묻히게 된다. 이에 본 연구는 사회행동을 강조하는 린드만의 성인교육에 관한 아이디어를 구체적으로 밝히는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 린드만이 사회과학의 방법을 탐구하였다는 사실에 착안하여 사회과학의 방법이라는 점에서 성인교육에 관한 그의 아이디어를 검토한다. 여기에서 성인교육이란, 집단행동을 대상으로 사회변화를 연구하기 위한 연구자가 집단행동에서의 학습자가 되고, 그 학습자가 다시 집단행동에 필요한 방법을 가르치는 교수자가 되는 과정, 즉 집단행동의 연구자가 집단행동의 주도자로 되는 과정을 뜻하는 참여연구방법과 같은 것으로서 궁극적으로는 사회변화의 방법을 뜻한다. 아울러 이것은 경제구조를 재생산하고 정치이데올로기를 유포하는 재생산 기제로서의 교육을 극복하기 위한 대안으로 제시되었다는 점에서 직업기술교육이나 일자리 창출을 위한 성인교육에 경도되는 현재의 평생교육의 현실과 관련하여 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

The explanation on the adult educational theory of Eduard Lindeman is recognized instructional method in that it is focused on the teaching method with experience in adult education, but there are some different view about his adult educational theory. It is that Lindeman explored the method in social science and contributed in social philosophy by explanation of new method which is participatory research method in social science. So It is needed to examine of idea of the method in term of adult educational theory, situation and activities which Lindeman lived in and participated in. There are three kinds of experience in lives of Lindeman. One is practical experience in group activities. Another is practical experience in adult education for Americanization. The last one is activities in research and discussion group in social science. As a result, Lindeman suggested collective activities as a subject in a social science, and presented adult education as a research method for social science such as a participatory research method which produce a tool of group activities for social change. It is important in that he presented adult education as an alternative to overcome education which reproduce economic system and ideology. But it is of more important in that adult education such as participatory research method works as a alternative to system which is produce human capital needed in industrial structure under the name of lifelong education.
