홍길주의 세계인식과 기호학적 의미작용

국문 초록

본고는 한국 한문학 연구의 새로운 방법론 모색이라는 거시적 목표 아래 기획되었으며, 한국 한문학 연구와 현대문학 연구의 접점 가능성을 모색하는 것으로 그 돌파구를 삼았다. 특히 항해 홍길주의 문학을 현대 기호학의 틀에서 새롭게 분석해냄으로써 그 구체성을 확보하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 항해의 活物과 活讀書를 기호학적 의미작용의 관점에서 재규정했으며, 「釋夢」ㆍ「釋夢繫」ㆍ「太虛府記」등 주요 작품을 분석하여 꿈의 의미화 과정을 이해하고, 꿈의 의미화를 통해 재생산된 의미(悟와 無正詁)가 다른 작품 속에 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 분명히 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 부정할 수 없는 다음의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 항해의 활독서는 대문장가인 조물주가 발송한 메시지를 읽어내는 기호학적 의미작용과 매우 닮아있다는 사실이다. 둘째, 항해는 조물주와 끊임없이 소통하면서 세계에 가득한 기호를 읽어내는데, 이때 문학의 코드로 읽어냄으로써 세계를 도서관으로 표상한다는 사실이다. 셋째, 항해는 꿈을 구성하는 다양한 기호들을 읽어냄으로써 꿈을 기록하기만 했던 과거에서 벗어나 꿈을 해석할 수 있었다는 사실이다. 넷째, 꿈의 의미화를 통해 재생산된 의미들을 문학 창작에 적극적으로 활용하고 있다는 사실이다. 향후 항해 문학의 새로운 비평모델 창출을 위해서라도, 항해와 기호학 사이의 표면적 거리에 매몰되지 않고 둘 사이의 이면적 친연성에 좀 더 집중할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper was planned under the macroscopic aim as to seek new method of Korean-Chinese classics study. To find possibility on points of contact between Korean-Chinese classics study and modern literature study was become solutions. Especially, as Hanghae Hong Gilju’s literatures were analysed with modern semiotics, I secured the concreteness. For this, this paper redetermined Hanghae’s Living-things(活物) and Live-reading(活讀書) on the view of semiotic meaning, explained meaning courses of dreams through analysing his main works such as Sukmong(釋夢), Sukmonggye(釋夢繫), Taehebugi(太虛府記) and so on, and certainly confirmed how reproduced meaning Oh(悟) and Mujunggo(無正詁) through meaning of dreams incarnated in other works. Therefore I gained follow results. The first, Hanghae’s Live-reading(活讀書) was similar to semiotic meaning reading messages from the creator as an great writer. The second, when he constantly communicating with the creator had read signs crammed in the world, he represented the world as a library reading code of literature. The third, he could interpret dreams reading various signs consisting of dreams beyond past just recording dreams. The forth, he positively used reproduced meanings through meaning of dreams in creating literature. Henceforth for producing new critic model of Hanghae’s literature, we need to focus not superficial distance between Hanghae and semiotics but the affinity of hidden side between them.
