체코 집시의 문화적 전통과 정체성

국문 초록

체코 소수민족인 집시는 체코 다수인 백인들과 모습, 언어 그리고 무엇보다도 사회, 경제 및 문화면에서 차이가 있기 때문에, 체코 사회에서 발생하고 있는 소위 ‘집시문제’를 해결하는 것은 쉽지만은 않다. 지난 역사 속에서 체코집시는 특히 춤, 노래, 공예품 등 예술에서 체코 사회에 일정부분 기여를 했으며, 문학에서도 상당한 수준의 작품을 생산하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 집시들의 기여가 올바른 평가를 받지 못하고 있으며, 집시 스스로도 오랜 기간의 차별과 탄압에 익숙해져 있다. 동시에 체코의 집시는 체코백인들과 함께 공존해왔지만 체코인으로서의 정체성을 갖고 있지 않으며 체코인으로 동화하려는 의지 역시 부족하다. 1989년 벨벳혁명 이후와 1993년 체코공화국 수립 그리고 2004년 체코의 EU 가입 이후에 집시의 지위가 이전보다는 향상되기는 했지만이 역시 만족스러울 수준은 아니다. 집시문제를 해결하기 위해서는 정부의 소수민족에 대한 포괄적인 생활개선 및 사회개선의 노력이 필요하다. 여기에는 집시들이 직업을 갖고 주류 사회로 통합될 수 있는 교육도 포함된다. 집시를 위한 학교와 교육제도는 이들이 체코민족으로서의 정체성을 갖게 하고 또 사회로 통합될 수 있도록 하는데 가장 중요한 측면이다.

영문 초록

Gypsies of Czech minorities are distinctive in their physical appearance, languages, and first of all in their social, economical and cultural characters. It is not easy to solve Gypsy problem in Czech society as we have discussed. Anyway they have been mistreated historically and they have been accustomed to it. In history they contributed culturally to the society where they are belong to. But they have not been recognized properly except when they have made social problems. They have not gotten proper identity as Czech people and they have not given proper place to live with other white majority even if their situations have been different historically. Their living conditions have been improved since 1989 revolution, but they have not been improved as we expected. Gypsies have their own problem in their community itself. Native gypsies have tendency to reject new arrivals. Even if they are mistreated and sacrificed they have produced their own culture by which they contributed the society where they live in. Especially they did in dances, songs, crafts and arts. Czech and Slovak gypsies produce qualified literature even. Czech government and Czech society have tried to improve life condition of Gypsies. The national identity influence self awareness of gypsies. Educational system of school create good atmosphere for national identity. They have to have chances to be educated full at any rate. This is a short cut to solve Gypsy problem in Czech society since 1989 revolution.
