국문 초록

임진왜란과 병자호란을 겪고 난 후 조선은 극심한 변화를 겪게 된다. 혼란을 평정하는 과정에서 지배층은 대명의리론을 부각시켜 전쟁 패배 이후의 이반하는 민심을 수습하고자 하였다. 숭명배청의 기치를 들고 나온 여러 전기집과 전쟁에서 싸우다 죽은 영웅들을 기록하고 있는 역사ㆍ전기문학은 여전히 대명의리론이 위세를 떨치고 있는 시대에 걸맞는 문학 양식이다. 역사ㆍ전기문학은 기본적으로 역사에 대한 신뢰를 바탕으로 하고 있으나, 문인들이 사관 대신 행적을 기록하여 남긴다는 사명감에 따라 쓴 것이므로 그 인물을 빛내줄 수 있는 문장의 힘을 중시하고 있다. 독자에게 미치는 감동과 흥미의 요소를 추가하기 위하여 많은 작가들이 사건 자체의 기이함에 초점을 맞추고 서사적 흥미를 위한 부연과 윤색을 더하게 된다. 그런 과정에서 역사적 사실성에 충실하기 보다는 문학적 완성도에 더 비중을 두는 경향이 나타나고, 후대로 갈수록 화소가 변이되거나 확대 재생산되는 양상을 보인다. 그와 동시에 대명의리론이라는 이념은 점차 약화되고 그 인물이 지닌 비극적 형상에 대한 구체적인 묘사에 치중하며 사건 그 자체에 대한 관심이 고조된다. 사건을 효과적으로 서술하기 위해서 集傳의 형태로 여러 인물이 등장하여 서사의 진행과정을 보여주기도 하고 주인공과 갈등 관계에 있는 악인이 대척적인 위치에서 주인공을 돋보이게 만들기도 한다. 이처럼 역사ㆍ전기문학이 점차 서사가 확장되고 문예미를 추구하는 경향으로 나아가게 되는 것은 시대가 전쟁으로부터 멀어질수록 역사적 사건은 하나의 서사적 흥미의 대상으로 남기 때문이다. 소외된 지역과 가문에서는 최대한 인물을 인상적으로 부각시키기 위해 구전되는 여러 화소를 첨가하여 허구성 짙은 기록으로 변개해 간다. 이런 방향으로의 변화가 다음 시대의 역사소설의 형성 발달에도 큰 영향을 주었을 것으로 보인다. 역사ㆍ전기문학의 다양한 축적은 근대계몽기의 상황과 맞물려 다시금 주목된다. 1907년부터 신문 잡지에 조선조 인물들의 전기가 연재되기 시작하고, 『해동명신록』과 『해동명장전』 은 20세기 초에 다시 간행되어 읽힌다. 외세의 침입이라는 국난의 위기를 겪으며 다시금 이념의 수호자인 충신들의 활약을 그린 영웅의 전기가 필요했음을 말해준다.

영문 초록

After experiencing the Japanese Invasion of Korea and Manchu Invasion of Korea, Chosun has gone through extreme change. During the course of restoring peace, the ruling circles emphasized “Daemyeong Uiri” which was an argument that Chosun Dynasty should be loyal to Ming Dynasty to handle the alienated public sentiment. Many biographies under the flag of admiring Ming Dynasty and excluding Qing Dynasty, and historic biographical writings which recorded the heros fighting and being dead in a warfield are literature suitable for the era when the Daemyeong Uiri extended its sway over. The Historic Biographical Writings are basically based on reliability on history, since writers wrote it upon the sense of duty to record the past on behalf of historians, it focuses on the power of sentences to shine the figure. In order to add more touching and exciting elements for readers, many authors focus on peculiarity of the incident and expand on and embellish the writing for more interests. In this process, there is a trend to put weight on the completeness of literary value rather than the truth of history. As it went into the later generations, the elements were transformed and reproduced. At the same time, the ideology has been weakened, and they laid stress on detailed description of tragic form to raise interests on the incident. In order to describe the accident more effectively, several figures appear to show the progress of the accidents in the form of group biography or villain who is confronted with hero appears to make hero stand out. Like this, the reason why Historic Biographical Writings took the trend expanding incidents and pursuing literary value is because the historic incident remained as a interesting thing as the period became farther from the war. Alienated regions and families add many elements to make it as a fiction to emphasize figures as much as possible. It seems that this change into the direction might significantly affect the development of the history novel. The various accumulation of historic biographical writings is drawing attention again with the situation of modern enlightenment period. The biographies of figures in Chosun Dynasty have been published serially in newspapers and magazines since 1907. “Haidong-Myeongsin-rok” and “Haidong-Myeongjang-jeon” were published and read in the beginning of the 20th century again. It tells that they needed the biographies of heros depicting the activities of loyalists who were guardians of ideology while they were experiencing national crisis.
