영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the construction of bound noun + -ida in the viewpoint of modality. In the previous study, ‘adnominal ending + bound noun + -ida’ put together the modal meaning, but the question is what decides the modal meaning among these ‘adnominal ending’, ‘bound noun’, ‘-ida’. We argue that ‘adnominal ending’, ‘-ida’ don’t have the modal meaning of their own and the core element which determines the modal meaning is the bound noun in the constructions of bound noun + -ida. First, certainty/uncertainty or realis/irrealis which seems to be the modal meaning of the adnominal ending actually depend on the context, so the adnominal ending doesn’t have modal meaning. The adnominal ending is only tense․aspect-marker and complementizer. Second the modal meaning is preserved when ‘-ida’ is omitted or case-marker is substituted for it, so ‘-ida’ doesn’t have the modal meaning.
