Kim, Ji-ha has been continued a vigorous activities as a poet, literary theorist and life thinker at the same time who is seen rarely in our poem history. His early literary aesthetics is mainly concentrated on the popular literary’s formalism and potential possibilities of popular literary as a repository of literary creation, but after the middle of 1980s, it is concentrated on the positively raising and making logically a view of the world about the saving in the tradition of the national culture. “The Aesthetics of White Shadow” is a sensible symbol of his thought and aesthetical distance and epistemology and practice of exobiology that he pursues at the same time.
In “The Aesthetics of White Shadow”, ‘White Shadow’ is an integrity of contradiction of ‘shadow’ and ‘white’. Both of them has the nature of creative paradox that is different superficially(‘is not’) and is same internally. Then, what is the reason that the paradox can be concluded? That is because the ‘white’ can be created from the inside of the ‘shadow’. If the ‘shadow’ is a darkness that is created by enduring and advancing, not avoiding the suffering, the ‘white’ is transcendental aura and divinity that emerged by overcome the shadow when the shadow reached the extreme state. So “the aesthetics of white shadow” means the state of aesthetical peak that made the dynamic balance of the shadow’s acquisition of an aesthetic sense and the white that is transcendental divinity from the ‘shadow’. This is corresponded to the unity of gravity & transcendency and the unification of the chaos & order and paradoxical integrity logic of heaven, earth and man that means the unity of heaven and earth is settled in the human. Specially, Kim, Ji-ha discovered that the paradoxical usage and the opposite agreement’s doubled alternation working is a the theory of creation of life and corresponded to the evolution theory. The context that is explaining the comparison of the text Dong-hak’s Sichunjoo which exposes the essence of oriental evolution theory and the life evolution theory of Teilhard de Chardin shows that definitely. He emphasis the point that the life’s creation and evolution theory is composed by the binarical principal of “yes or not” that is revealed as the order of dimension that revealed the order of hidden dimension. And it examine closely that the dynamical balance’s binarical principal is immanent as our nation’s popular culture’s logic of life. In the national aesthetics that is consistent the traditional arts such as the Dangun mythology, the Thoughts like picturesque, Donghak, static, the masque dance, Pansori, pungmul, exocism, he reads the expression of life and prospects the meaning and the futuristic value.
In other hands, he emphasis that the paradox of opposite agreement and doubled alternation action that stands for “the White Shadow” has the meaning of the original form of 21st century’s civilization that is keenly required the development of sustainable life ultimately. From the loss of human’s natural shape to the fatal reality that encounters the crisis of global value of life value, “the Aesthetics of the White Shadow” is valid as a theory of knowledge and method that can open the road of life and peace. Therefore, his “the Aesthetic of the White Shadow” has the universal meaning as an original form of neo-renaissance the dimension of global wide beyond the category of national aesthetics.
