국문 초록

思想의 月夜』는 1941년 3월부터 1942년 7월까지 총 98회 『매일신보』에 연재된 작가의 자전적 소설이다. 이태준은 42년 7월 5일, 주인공 ‘이송빈’의 동경 유학 생활을 쓰던 중에 연재를 중단하는데,『사상의 월야』는 해방 후 개작되어 1946년 단행본으로 발행된다. 본고에서는 라캉의 ‘대타자’와 ‘주체’의 관계를 중심으로, 제국 일본의 식민지와 해방이라는 조선의 역사적 상황 속에서 『사상의 월야』 개작을 통해 작가 이태준이 놓인 위치와 주체의 모습을 고찰하고자 한다. 주인공 이송빈은 제국 일본의 언어가 식민지 조선의 언어를 배제하여, 조선인을 제국 일본의 국민으로 동화하려는 움직임 속에 놓여 있었다. 이러한 이중언어적 상황 속에서 이송빈의 욕망은 일본어를 향해 작동하기 시작했으며, 이를 통해라캉이 말하는 욕망의 주체로 위치 지어진다. 그러나 이미 ‘언어들의 배치’를 통해 조선어의 존재를 인식한 송빈은 단순히 욕망의 주체로 머물 수 없었다. 식민지 조선의 이중언어적 상황에서 모어(母語) 조선어에 대한 인식을 바탕으로 대타자 일본의 동일화에 포섭되지 않았던 이송빈의 모습은, 해방 후 모어(母語) 조선어만이 절대적 언어로 표상된 언어의 재배치 속에서 민족주의자의 모습으로 변모하고 있다. 따라서 ‘조선인 이송빈’이라는 민족의 호명으로 주체의 구성을 추동했던 대자타인 ‘아버지’ 조선의 동일화의 흐름을 고려하여, 이태준의 개작을 통해 근대 서사에서 주체의 변용을 중단시키고 동일화의 논리로 주체를 봉인하는 작동 기제의 문제들을 지속적으로 고찰해야 할 것이다. 이태준의『사상의 월야』는 근대 주체의 위치와 변용 양상을 통해, 근대 주체의 내면 혹은 욕망을 동일화하는 보편화 기제의 강력한 영향력을 보여준다. 그러나 그 ‘부정적 드러냄’으로 인해 『사상의 월야』는 근대 주체의 자율성에 대한 절대적 믿음과 대타자에 대한 비판적 인식으로 나아가는 통로가 되고 있다.

영문 초록

『The Moonlight Night of Thoughts』 is an autobiographical novel of the writer which had been serially published in daily newspaper Maeil Shinbo, total 98 times from March 1941 to July 1942. Lee Tae-jun, the writer, stopped writing this serial story on July 5, 1942 while writing about the protagonist, Lee Song-bin’s life in Tokyo as a foreign student. Meanwhile, the novel was adapted after Joseon liberated from Japanese colonial rule and published in 1946. Lee Tae-jun’s situation during that time and the appearance of the subject through adaptation of his novel under the Joseon’s historical situation were investigated with a focus on the relationship between ‘The Other’ and ‘The Subject’ by French psychoanalyst and psychiatrist Jacques Lacan. The main character of the book, Lee Song-bin was lying in the middle of movements of assimilating Korean people to the citizens of imperial Japan making the language of Joseon ruled out by the language of Japan. Under such a bilingual situation, his desire started rushing through Japanese language. Through this, he was positioned as the subject of desire, as said by Lacan. However, he who had already recognized the existence of Korean language through the ‘disposition of languages,’ couldn’t remain simply as the subject of desire. Under the bilingual situation of the colonial Joseon, the look of the protagonist who had not been taken into assimilation of Japan, so called, the other, on the ground of the consciousness of his mother tongue, Korean language, was changed into a nationalist amid re-disposition of languages in which only Korean language was symbolized as the mother tongue after freed from Japanese imperialism. Thus, considering the flow of assimilation of Joseon; ‘Father,’ that is, the other, for which the protagonist had closely involved in the organization of the subject upon being called by the people, dubbed ‘Korean, Lee Song-bin,’ it shall be required to stop changing the subject in the modern narrative text through Lee Tae-jun’s adaptation, and to review the issues of working mechanism to seal off the subject with the logic of assimilation. Lee Tae-jun’s 『The Moonlight Night of Thoughts』 displays a strong impact of generalizing mechanism which assimilates the inner part of the modern subject or its desire through the position of the modern subject and changing pattern. However, due to such ‘negative exposure,’ the novel has become a passage to advance to critical perception with respect to the absolute belief and the other relative to autonomy of modern subject.
