국문 초록

지금까지 해방공간에서 활동했던 우익진영 여성들에 대해 평가할 때 남성정치단체의 총동원세력 혹은 하수인으로 보는 경향이 강하였다. 이러한 시각은 우익진영 여성들이 전개했던 여성운동에 대한 구체적인 검토 없이 현상만 가지고 평 가한 것에서 나온 문제라고 할 수 있다. 실제 해방공간에서 우익진영 여성들은 일제시대부터 여성운동을 전개했던 인물들이었으며 해방공간에서 이를 계승하여 여성운동을 전개했던 것이다. 당시 우익진영 여성들은 국가건설과정에서 양성평등을 이루기 위해서는 정치권으로 진출하는 것이 매우 중요하다고 생각하였다. 그래서 여성의 권리를 확보하기 위한 법률제정에 발언권을 행사해야 한다는 생각을 가지고 의회진출운동을 벌였다. 본고에서는 기왕의 연구성과에서 제대로 평가되지 않은 부분을 중심으로 우익진영 여성들의 의회진출운동을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 해방공간에서 의회진출운동은 일제시대 여성활동가들의 정치적인 의식성장과 밀접한 관련이 있었다. 일제시대 한국여성들은 국가가 없었기 때문에 여성참정권운동을 벌일만한 여건이 되지 않았다. 그러나 국내에 소개된 해외에서 여성참정권운동은 이들의 정치적인 의식을 간접적으로 성장시키는데 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 해방이 되자 한국 여성들은 그동안 간접적으로 경험한 여성참정권운동을 적극적으로 벌여 나갔다. 특히 여성의회진출운동에 많은 노력을 기울였다. 민선의원에서 시작하여 과도입법의원, 제헌의회로 진출하기 위한 운동을 전개해 나갔다. 여성들은 의회에 진출하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울였으나 제헌의회를 위한 총선거에서 한사람도 당선되지 못하였다. 남성들의 의회진출 방해, 물질적인 어려움,여성에 대한 사회적인 멸시, 일반 여성들의 봉건적인 사고, 그리고 92퍼센트에 달하는 여성들의 문맹과 무지 등으로 여성입후보자들의 낙선은 예견되어 있었다. 여성입후자들도 이러한 현실에서 당선이 어려울 것이라는 사실을 알고 있었다. 황애덕의 “다만 여성투쟁을 남기고 싶었다”는 고백처럼 해방공간에서 여성들의 의회진출운동은 역사의 한 획을 그은 것이며, 이러한 경험은 이후 여성운동의 방향을 제시해 주었다.

영문 초록

This study, starting with the fact that the female movement after the liberation is not unrelated to that under Japan’s colonial rule, has concretely investigated Korean women’s activities on the side of the right wing after the liberation. Among them, we especially have examined Korean women’s movement for the entry in the assembly, which was carried out under much poorer conditions though they caught the same political opportunities as men for the first time. As a result, we have reached the following conclusions. Though Korea welcomed the liberation, common women lied in the state of complete loss of rights. What made this state of rightlessness more severe were the women’s illiteracy and ignorance. According to an investigation at that time, 92% of them were illiterate. Emphasizing the importance of the eradication of women’s illiteracy, the Women’s News said, “the results of the Japanese bastards’ policy that didn’t give women chances to learn. At the previous election of legislative representatives, there were many women who were not able to read and write, and thus asked others to write down in lieu of them the name of a preferred candidate. …For the true female liberation in the construction of a democratic society, and for preparing for the impending general election, the social leaders are required to make a lot more efforts to eradicate the illiteracy.” Under such circumstances, female candidates’ defeat in the election was anticipated though Korean women’s movement for the entry in the assembly was a monumental event in the history. During Japan’s colonial ruling, the women who participated in the movement for the entry in the assembly painstakingly thought about how they should carry out female movement in the future while they envied the overseas foreign women their movement for female suffrage. However, the reality of the women in the post-liberation days was not easy. Though it succeeded to the female movement under Japanese imperialism, the movement for the entry in the assembly was eventually failed due to common men’s feudal thought about women, financial difficulty, and women’s ignorance. However, Korean women’s movement for the entry in the assembly after the liberation suggested a direction for later female movements.
