국문 초록

이 글에서는 삼국시기 도성사에 관한 기존의 연구성과를 정리하고 향후 연구과제를 검토했다. 이를 통해 최근 고고학 발굴성과를 바탕으로 초기 왕성의 위치를 구체적으로 비정하고, 초기 왕성이 대규모 시가지를 갖춘 도성으로 전환하던 과정을 새롭게 규명하고 있음을 파악했다. 또한 가로구획의 조영원리, 평균적인 거주단위와 도성의 총인구까지 다각도로 검토하고 있음도 파악했다. 그리고 주요 건축물이나 도성 전체의 공간구조에 대한 연구도 활발히 이루지고 있다. 이로써 삼국시기 도성사 연구는 위치 비정을 둘러싸고 논쟁하던 단계를 벗어나 본궤도에 진입했다고 할 수 있다. 이에 앞으로는 가로구획이나 공간구성에 대한 검토를 통해 도성의 기본구조를 파악하는 한편, 이를 도성민의 제반 활동과 연계시켜 고찰할 필요가 있다. 도성이라는 공간 속에서 역동적으로 전개되었던 인간의 다양한 활동을 체계적으로 복원할 필요가 있는 것이다. 이를 위해서는 고고학 발굴성과를 토대로 단편적인 문헌자료를 다각도로 재해석하는 한편, 고대 중국이나 일본 도성과의 비교 연구를 지속적으로 추진할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

In this article, past studies on the subject of the history of capital cities from the Three-dynasties period are reviewed, and tasks that are currently left for future studies are contemplated. Based upon recently announced archaeological studies and excavation survey reports, it seems that current studies are accurately estimating the locations of the early days' capitals, and they also newly revealed the process in which the early days' capitals might have turned into large cities equipped with major streets, sections and avenues. Studies today are also meticulously examining the rules and principles that must have been applied to the task of designing and constructing streets, the features of average living units, and also the size of the general population that would have resided inside the capital, from various perspectives. Scholars are also actively studying various facets of the important structures, and internal composition of spaces inside the capitals. As we can see, studies concentrating upon the history of capital cities of the Three-dynasties period have surely gone beyond the phase of merely debating the locations of those cities, and reached a new level of discussion. In the future, the exact structure of the inside of the capitals should be revealed based upon the street & avenue designs or internal spacial compositions. The general activities of the residents of those cities should be studied as well. We have to find out how the people in the past lived inside those capitals, and construct living models based upon such activities. In the meantime, the scarcely remaining written texts should be reexamined and reinterpreted from different points of view based upon archaeological survey reports, and comparative studies examining capital cities of ancient China and Japan should continue as well.
