베트남전 재현 양상을 통해 본 한국 남성성의 (재)구성

국문 초록

이 글은 베트남전에 대한 미디어의 재현을 분석함으로써 미국과 한국, 베트남이라는 세 관계 속에서 국가를 상징하는 ‘한국남성의 남성성’이 자기 정체성을 구축해가는 과정과 그것을 구축하기 위해 동원된 서사전략을 분석한 글이다. 한국 남성의 시각에서 베트남의 여성을 ‘아오자이’로 성애화하고 베트남 남성을 나약하고 교활한 ‘베트콩’으로 재현한 것이 미디어에 나타난 베트남에 대한 대표적인 이미지였으며 두 이미지는 성애의 주체이자 우월한 우방의 군대로서 ‘기적을 낳는 맹호부대’라는 한국 남성의 주체가 되고자 하는 욕망이 투사된 결과였다. 이글은 과잉된 남성성의 발로였던 ‘기적을 낳는 맹호부대’라는 표상을 중심으로 주류 담론과 참전군의 ‘용병’의식 사이에서 드러나는 낙차에 분석의 초점을 맞추었다.전시에 한국의 남성성은 미국과 동맹관계라는 형식적 평등과 실질적 불평등사이에서 동요할 수 밖에 없었기 때문에 태생적으로 주체로 성립될 수 없는 것이었다. 그렇기 때문에 주체를 향한 욕망은 젠더화된 내셔널리즘 수사를 동원함으로써 베트남을 여성화하였으며 이 재현을 통하여 상징적으로 정복의 정당성을 확보할 수 있었다. 반면, 베트콩의 이미지에서 드러나는 점은 한국 남성(성)은 ‘적’베트콩에 대해서는 미국이라는 강한 주체의 약한 동맹자가 겪는 차별로 인하여 ‘적’으로서의 이미지와 아시아인으로서의 동일시가 혼재한다는 점이다. 베트콩에 대한 한국 남성의 양가적인 이미지를 분석함으로서 이 글이 최종적으로 도달한 지점은 ‘민족주의적 베트콩’이라는 새로운 해석이다. 이 해석은 참전 이전의 베트남 민족주의에 대한 긍정과 달리, 참전을 통해 얻어진 일상속의 발견이었으며 ‘베트 콩은 100% 공산주의자’라는 미국의 베트남 인식과 주체의 위치를 성찰적으로 사유할 수 있는 분기점이 되었다.

영문 초록

In this article, the aspects of appearance based on sex and their problems are analyzed by looking into the representation of media that shows the process that development dictatorship practiced Vietnam War as an lucrative chance. Korean male felt humiliation by awaring of internal base camp prostitution in an unequal alliance among Korea and U,S,A and showed the aspects of competing masculinity with U,S,A soldiers through that of Vietnamese, On the other hand, media portrayed Vietcon that are implicitly identified as a male a dwarfed and cunning image. The media reported news in subjection to the rule of anticommunism by authorities so that the gendered images of invinsibly strong national army, sensual Vietnamese women and undersized Vietcon were produced. As the war prolonged, some perspectives that many of Vietcon are farmer rather than communist with exclusive nationalism appeared, while segmentary representation about women sustained. In conclusion, in this paper I argue that the cause of consistences and changes in the representation of Vietnamese was resulted from the change in American's strategy against Vietnam war, taken after the Chinese New Year attack by Vietcon, as an external factor and the experiences of Korean War as an internal factor, Meanwhile, since representation of women did not have direct relation to these factors and it was continually in subjection to the vision of male/soldier, there was no change in representation.
