국문 초록

마리아 돔브로프스카(Maria Dąbrowska, 1889-1965)는 현대 폴란드 소설문학을대표하는작가이다. 돔브로프스카의문학세계는사회의진보는혁명적인 방법에 의해서 보다는 개인의 근면과 공동체 의식, 스스로의 위치에서 자기 직분을 다함으로써 점진적으로 이루어질 수 있다는 19세기 후반의 폴란드 포지티비즘(pozytywizm) 사상과 맥을 같이하고 있다. 그녀의 작품에는 서유럽 사회에 대한 체험과, 지식의 대중화를 위한 노력, 폴란드 농촌문제에 대한 해박한 지식과 경험 등이 배어 있다. 돔브로프스카에게 있어 문학적 원천은 폴란드 농민들의 가난과 어려운 현실, 그리고그속에서도피어나는훈훈한인간미와사랑이다. 강인한생명력을 가진 농민들의 일상적인 노동의 중요성, 내일을 위한 수고와 염려, 삶의 계속성에대한본능적신뢰, 갈등과불화와시기속에서도전체적인틀을깨지 않는 감정의 절제가 돔브로프스카의 작품에서 두드러지게 나타나 있다. 절제된 문체, 풍부하면서도 간결한돔브로프스카의언어는폴란드어사전들에서 예문으로 많이 인용되고 있는 모범적인 폴란드어이다. 중편소설인<마을결혼파티Na wesele wsi>는돔브로크프스카의대표작 중의 하나로 결혼식을 계기로 토요일 오후부터 월요일 아침까지 조용한 시골 마을에서 일어났던 일을 묘사하고 있다. 약 40 명의 인물이 등장하는 이작품에는극적인장면도, 긴장감을불러일으킬만한사건도없다. 그러나 전쟁과가난, 정치적사회적격변과관료들의강압과선동등온갖어려움을 겪으면서도 집요하게 삶을 이어가며 생업에 최선을 다하고, 결혼해서 애를낳아기르고, 그속에서자신들의세계를이루면서살아가고있는순박한농민들의 삶의 지혜를 진솔하게 펼쳐 보이고 있는 이 작품에는 생명의 연속성 에 대한 무한한 신뢰가 담겨 있다.

영문 초록

M. Dąbrowska(1889-1965) is one of the most famous novelists in the modern Polish literature. She was born in a country village as a daughter of an impoverished landowner. She studied natural science in Switzerland and social science in Belgium. After publishing her novel (Ludzie stamtąd, 1926), which describes the fate and life of Polish agricultural laborers and poor peasants, she became widely known. The major work of her life (Noce i dnie, 1932-1934) shows the transformations of the social structure in Poland from the end of the nineteenth century to World War I in four volumes. This is indicated through a gentry couple living on an estate in the countryside facing financial crisis and conflicts with each other and with other people. (Na wsi wesele, 1954) depicts the human relations between relatives, the wedding customs, the attitude of village people toward the collectivization, and the persistence of the village life passed through war and political hardships. The village people in are not rich. In fact they were very poor in the past, but they now have houses and fields. Most of them send their children to school. They hope that they will live better in the future. There aren't any conflicts between old and young generations, although the young people see the collectivization from a different point of view than the elder people. The disputes about the collectivization between the supporter of the socialist government's policy and the village people are not so serious that they end with simple discussions. All the people in this story feel responsible as small parts of the whole community and are obliged to fulfill their own job.
