국문 초록

체코 프롤레타리아 문학은 1920년대 전반기의 체코 문단에 적용된 문학 경향으로서 사회의 불공정과 불평등을 교정하고 제거하기 위해 혁명을 지지하며, 사회의 가장 가난한 계층인 프롤레타리아의 이익에 봉사하고, 프롤레타리아의 입장에서 사물을 관찰하며, 프롤레타리아로부터 새로운 창조성의 원천을 찾으려는 문학 운동이다. 체코 프롤레타리아 문학은 제1차 세계 대전 이후 유럽의 정치와 사회에 등장한 혁명 운동의 영향을 받으면서, 동시에 전후 유럽 사회의 급진주의적인 경향과도 관련을 갖는다. 체코 프롤레타리아 문학은 또한 러시아 혁명과 러시아의 프롤레타리아 예술 운동의 영향을 받을 뿐만 아니라, 특히 19세기 말의 체코 내 사회민주주의 운동과 마르크스주의 운동의 전통과도 맥이 닿아 있다. 체코 프롤레타리아 문학은 1920년대와 1930년대에 이르는 현대 체코문학의 황금기의 시작을 장식하는 문학 운동으로서, 현대 체코 문학의 기라성 같은 거장들이 체코 프롤레타리아 문학 운동에 참여하거나 지원을 제공하였다. 시의 사이페르트. 호라, 볼케르, 소설의 반추라, 올브라흐트, 문학이론의 타이게, 샬다 등이 대표적인 인물들이다. 체코 프롤레타리아 문학의 최고 시인은 볼케르이다. 그의 죽음과 더불어 체코 프롤레타리아 문학이 전성기를 마감할 정도로 체코 프롤레타리아 문학에서의 그의 위치는 확고하다. 볼케르의 문학은 프롤레타리아의 해방과 혁명이라는 이데올로기를 추구하면서도, 이성과 감성, 개인과 집단의 조화와 연대를 동시에 추구하였다. 볼케르 문학의 이러한 특성이 그의 많은 시들로 하여금 이데올로기 지향적이고, 경향적인 시의 한계를 뛰어넘어 ‘체코시의 가장 귀중한 유산’으로 자리 매김 하게 만들었다. 체코 프롤레타리아 문학을 가장 먼저 출발시킨 호라 역시 풍부한 감성과 냉철한 지성을 바탕으로 훌륭한 시들을 남기고 있고, 뒤에 노벨 문학상을 수상하게 되는 사이페르트도 사회 혁명과 예술 혁명의 결합에 의한 독특한 시 세계를 구축하고 있다. 이렇듯 걸출한 시인들의 활동으로 체코 프롤레타리아 문학은 전후 체코 문학의 서막을 화려하게 장식한다.

영문 초록

The movement of Czech Proletarian literature has its main phase in the first half of 1920s. After 1918 many of the Czech intellectuals supported the social revolution in newly born Czechoslovak Republic. They were inspired by the Russian Revolution as well as the domestic tradition of the Czech Social democracy and Marxist doctrines. Many writers and poets participated in the movement as well. Literary theoretician Karel Teige and literary critic F. X. Šalda provided them with theoretical orientation of the movement. In contrast to prewar individualism, social experience and collectivism were to be the starting point for all literary and poetic creation. The themes like social justice, class consciousness, ideology, proletarian revolution, collective life had a leading role in their literary works. Acoording to the doctrine of the Proletarian literature, literary work should be easy enough to be understandable and acceptable by the proletariat, and the proletarian poets and writers were advised to introduce lower and folk style in their poetry and novels. Czech Proletarian literature has been applied more in the field of poetry than in the prose. This is the reason why the Czech literary historians more often use the term Proletarian poetry (proletářská poezie) rather than Proletarian literature (proletářská literatura). The leading poets of Czech Proletarian literature, Josef Hora and Jiří Wolker were also the leading literary personalities of Czech literature of the 1920s. Both Jaroslav Seifert, a Nobel-prize winner in literature, and Jindřich Hořejší have started their literary career as proletarian poets. With the publication of The Difficult Hour (Těžká hodina) by Wolker in 1922 Czech Proletarian poetry reaches the peak. However, after the premature death of Wolker in 1924 Czech Proletarian poetry declines and it gives way to the new avantgarde movement, Poetism. A series of poets follow Wolker's examples, but their literary achievements are far behind their leader. Nevertheless, Czech Proletarian poetry has produced many good works. For example many of Wolker's poetry belong to the most precious property of Czech poetry. Czech literature of Proletarian and Poetism phase of 1920s marks the beginning of the Golden Age of Modern Czech literature.
