코스톨라니 대죄 작품에 나타난 갈등 분석

국문 초록

본 논문은 양 차 세계대전 기간동안 헝가리 작가 중 가장 훌륭한 작가 중 한 사람으로 평가되는 코스톨라니를 소개하고 그의 작품을 분석해 볼 목적으로 쓰여 졌다. 특히 그가 아시아 문학에 가졌던 관심과 애정이 본인으로 하여금 코스톨라니를 연구하게 만든 계기가 되었다. 코스톨라니는 비록 예술을 위한 예술(l`art pour l`art)을 부르짖었지만 그의 작품들이 현실로부터 완전히 탈피하지는 못했다. 특히 그의 많은 작품들이 사회에서 일어나는 많은 갈등을 다루고 있는데, 이 갈등을 분석해 보는 것이 이 논문의 주요 테마이다. 그의 작품들을 분석해 보면 갈등의 유형이 물론 다양하게 나타나고 있지만 몇 가지 주요 유형으로 압축해 볼 수 있다. 주요 갈등 유형은 사회,정치, 역사적 갈등, 개인과 사회와의 갈등 그리고 개인 간의 갈등으로 분류될 있다. 코스톨라니는 그 갈등의 원인으로 이기주의, 상대에 대한 이해의 부재 그리고 사디즘을 꼽았고 갈등에 대한 해결 유형으로는 수동적 대응,적극적 반항 그리고 타협에 의한 원만한 해결방법이 있음을 제시했다. 그러나 타협에 의한 해결의 경우는 극히 드문데 이는 코스톨라니의 비관론적 세계관을 잘 보여준다 하겠다.

영문 초록

This article was written to summarize Dezső Kosztolányi's views about psychological and social conflicts for Korean readers. Kosztolányi was one of the most talented writers and poet of mid war Hungary. His inclination to symbolism, secession, and impressionism made him someone who represented the main tendencies of European literature of the age. Although Kosztolányi always emphasized the importance of the l'art pour l'art attitude, his short stories and novels reflect the contemporary Hungarian society. Since the use of human conflict frequently emerged in his novels and stories, we can understand his general views of the world. The identical conflict types were not so important for Kosztolányi as was the conflict itself. Nevertheless, the writer represented different social, political, generational and love conflicts in detail even if recognized the existence of the dividing lines between social classes and between the generations, but always disapproved the rigid classification of people and the artificially erected walls that keep human beings apart. In the case of man and woman conflicts, Kosztolányi gradually abandoned the primarily man-centered and contra-woman attitude. In the name of individualism and freedom, he often disapproved of those rules that control and restrain private life. Kosztolányi placed egoism in first place among the reasons for potential conflicts. In the meantime he supported the individual right for the protection of his personal integration. His egoist characters can be individual into two group: those whose egoism suffers a certain degree of frustration can be put into the first one and those who have never had any experience at all can be put into the other. osztolányi considered that the lack of understanding and sadism are the other two main sources of conflicts. He generally disapproved the passivity and submissiveness, but gave no chance for compromise. He emphasized the negative aspects of revolt and protest against repression.
