초등학교에서 중학교로의 전환 지원 프로그램이 장애학생의 중학교 학교적응도에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등 장애학생의 중학교로의 전환을 지원하는 프로그램을 개발하여 실제로 초등학교 6학년 말부터 중학교 입학 초기까지 프로그램을 실시하여 장애학생의 중학교 입학 초기의 학교적응에 미친 효과를 밝힌 국내 최초의 연구이다. 본 연구의 목적은 서울특별시 소재 초등학교에서 중학교로 전환을 앞둔 특수학급 장애학생을 대상으로 전환 지원 프로그램을 제공하여 장애학생의 중학교 학교적응도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구는 사후검사 통제집단 설계를 사용하여 15명의 실험집단 학생들에게는 초등학교 6학년 겨울방학과 중학교 입학 직후 2주 동안 총 22회기의 전환 지원 프로그램을 제공하였고, 15명의 통제집단 학생들에게는 중재를 제공하지 않았다. 연구 결과, 초등학교에서 중학교로의 전환 지원 프로그램을 제공받은 실험집단 학생들의 중학교 학교적응도는 통제집단에 비해 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타났으며, 학교적응의 5가지 하위영역 중에서 학교만족도와 일반학급에서의 수업참여도, 학교환경 적응도 영역에서 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 유의하게 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 본 연구는 중등학교에서 통합교육의 확산과 내실화를 위한 노력을 경주하는 현 시점에서 장애학생의 초등학교에서 중학교로의 전환 지원의 중요성과 필요성에 재차 관심을 환기시켰고, 초등학교 6학년 장애학생들에게 적용할 수 있는 실질적인 전환 지원 프로그램을 개발하여 그 프로그램의 구체적 내용을 제시하였으며, 실제 초등학교에서 중학교로의 전환 시기에 전환 지원 프로그램을 실행하여 그 효과를 검증하였다는데 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an elementary to middle school transition support program on school adjustment of students with disabilities as they entered the inclusive middle school. The participants in the study were 30 students with disabilities who were moving from elementary schools to middle schools. A group of 15 students with disabilities who participated in the transition support program was compared with a matched group of 15 students with disabilities who didn't. In this study, a school adjustment scale for students with disabilities was used to measure the students' school adjustment to the inclusive middle school. The results of this study were as follows: First, the experimental group that participated in the transition support program displayed significantly higher the total score of school adjustment than the control group. Second, there was a statistically significant difference in the subarea scores of school satisfaction, academic engagement in inclusive class, and school environment adjustment between the experimental group and control group. Third, there was no statistically significant difference in the scores of academic engagement in special class, observance of the school rules, and peer and teacher relationship between the experimental group and control group. The results of this study indicate that an elementary to middle school transition support program can improve the school adjustment of students with disabilities in inclusive middle schools. Suggestions for future studies as to transition suppots for studetns with disabilities and limitations of this study were provided.
