국문 초록

이 글은 규장각에 소장되어 있는 가람본 󰡔樸素村話󰡕에 실린 이봉상 피화담을 검토하여, 본 작품이 가진 史話로서의 성격을 밝히는 데 목적을 두었다. 史話란 ‘역사적 사실’ 전달에 주안점을 두고, 그 사실을 설명적 요소와 구체적 형상 등으로 드러냄으로써 미적 긴장과 정서적 감응을 낳아, 결과적으로 문학성을 얻게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 근본적으로 역사성과 문학성을 함께 가진다. 본 작품은 辛丑․壬寅 士禍 당시 이봉상 피화 사건을 다룬 자료들 중에서 사실을 기록하면서 문학적 형상화에 가장 성공한 것으로 볼 수 있으므로, 史話가 갖는 역사성과 문학성을 함께 고찰하기에 적합한 것이다. 이봉상 피화담은 당시의 다양한 전승을 바탕으로 사건의 전말을 어느 자료보다도 구체적으로 그려내고 있다. 정치적 소신 때문에 겪게 된 기구한 삶을 제대로 알리지도 못하고 오랜 세월동안 노론가 중심으로만 일종의 담론으로 형성되어 오던 것이 비로소 기록으로 남게 된 것이므로 史料的 가치도 크다. 이 작품은 서사 편폭의 확대와 사건의 플롯화, 주변 인물의 활약과 서사 세계의 확대, 허구적 상상력의 개입과 장면의 축조 등의 문학적 형상화 하였다. 그 결과 士禍 속에서 고난을 겪은 인물의 삶의 실상이 구체적으로 드러나고, 그 사건에 대한 당대의 문화적 배경까지 담기게 되었다. 이로써 史話가 사실을 기록하여 역사적 진실을 충실히 드러내고자하는 데서 출발했지만 작가의 의도적 재구성을 통해 허구적 진실에 더욱 가까워진 한 전형적 모습을 볼 수 있다. 결과적으로 이봉상 피화담은 史話의 형식을 취하여 역사적 사실과 허구적 서사의 긴장 속에서 당대인의 진실을 담아내고 있는데, 경험적 현실을 그려내면서도 허구적 현실에 더욱 가까워진 작품임을 알 수 있다. 사실과 허구의 경계를 구별하기 힘들 정도의 적극적인 문학적 형상화가 이루어진 秀作으로서 史話史의 한 획을 긋는 중요한 의의를 가지는 작품으로 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Differ from the other related articles, Lee Bong-sang Pihwadam recorded in 󰡔Baksochonhwa󰡕 deals with the historical events in a type of historical tale, and the story had been successfully become much more narrative and interesting story through reconstruction. After the intentional modification, this work is now not only revealing the character's detailed life; suffering from the calamity of literati, but also containing the contemporary people's thoughts and cultural background of that historical calamity. This is a typical example of the story which once had been a record of historical fact to become nearly fictional story due to the modification. Also, Lee Bong-sang Pihwadam is highly valuable historical material, since the secret which is the inside story of refuge once hidden within the family members was exposed to the public by this story over 20 years after. Especially, the family's sacrifice and troubles due to the death of Lee Yi-myeong, and Pirandam of Lee Bong-sang was dramatic itself so that some extent of discussion already had been made among Noron specialists. At that time, Lee Dong-yoon reorganized the facts which had been suppressed for a long time based on the various reports turned in. In conclusion, Lee, Bongsang Pihwadam was written in the form of historical tale, however it got fictional reality rather than experiential fact. The story was originally developed based on the real event, but completed in much more interesting story due to the abundant addition of narrative expressions and details. Eventually, this story got possessed the literary features, and, at the same time, performed the duty of recording historical facts. Thus, we can remark that Lee Bong-sang Pihwadam is really a superb work because it had been undergone literary figuration that caused ambiguity between the fact and fiction. It can be evaluated as one of the most meaningful story in the history of historical tale.
