탈북자 소설에 드러난 한국자본주의의 문제점 연구

국문 초록

지금 우리는 새로운 국내외 상황 변화에 대응하여 남·북한의 이질성을 극복하고 새로운 통일시대를 맞이하려는 시기에 와 있다. 분단문학도 통일문학을 지향하고 있는 바, 본고는 북한민의 신분에서 남한민으로 새로운 체제를 경험한 탈북자에 주목하게 되었다. 따라서 본 논문은 박덕규의 탈북자를 주인공으로 한 소설을 대상으로, 그들이 자본주의 체제에 노출되어 겪는 이질감이라는 심리적 적응의 측면과 그들이 체감한 한국자본주의의 문제점을 사회적 적응의 측면으로 나누어 살펴봄으로써 통일문학을 지향하는 새로운 분단문학의 방향성을 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 우선, 탈북자가 자본주의에 노출되어 겪게 되는 이질감을 중심으로, 경제적 우위를 심리적 우위로 착각하는 남한민의 고압적인 자세, 그들이 일상 속에서 체득한 중간자라는 이중의 정체성, 그리고 남한민과 소통의 비공유자로서 느끼는 소외 등을 대상으로 살펴보았다. 둘째, 탈북자의 시각에서 파악되는 한국적 자본주의의 속성을 중심으로 탈북자를 하나의 상품으로 파악하고 그들의 자원화에 몰두하는 자본주의의 천박성을 살펴보았고, 물질만능과 속물성에 둘러싸인 남한민에 대한 탈북자의 비판적 시각을 통해 물질의 노예가 되어 사는 오늘날 우리의 모습을 반성해 볼 수 있었다. 왜냐하면 우리 스스로가 자본주의 제도가 펼쳐놓은 그물망 속에서의 욕망의 공모자이기 때문이다. 따라서 박덕규의 소설은 자본주의에 대한 반성적 사유의 결과물이다. 세계가 하나의 전산망으로 연결되는 ‘잡종(hybrid)’의 시대다. 이분법적 척도의 이질적인 태도에서 벗어나, 다양한 공존의 열린 성찰로 발상을 전환해야 할 때다. 이러한 시기에 탈북자들의 남한에서의 삶을 살펴 본 문학은 분단 극복 내지 민족 통합의 길 찾기에 매우 긴요한 역할을 수행할 수 있을 것이다. 앞으로 탈북자 문학은 이러한 문제의식에 입각하여 남·북한의 문화적 이질성을 좁히는 방안, 인간적 덕성이 상실되어 가는 남한 사회의 냉철한 자기반성, 탈북자의 재교육 문제 등의 다양한 내용으로 분단문학을 너머 진일보한 통일문학으로 확산되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study set out to investigate the novels of Park Deok-gyu, who had reflected North Korean defectors in a continuous and serious manner, and thus to look into the nature of Korean capitalism. First, it was observed that North Korean defectors developed a sense of difference suddenly being exposed to capitalism. Mistaking their economic superiority as psychological superiority, South Koreans treated them in a high-handed manner. Living in the South Korean society day after day, they developed a double identity as man-in-the middle. In addition, the absence of a social network between South Koreans and them made them feel alienated. The conflicts and hardship they feel in the South Korean society clearly reveal the heterogeneous aspects of life between North and South Korea. By reviewing the nature of Korean capitalism from the viewpoint of North Korean defectors, the investigator showed that it was pariah capitalism that treated North Korean defectors as a product and was obsessed with turning them into resources. The critical perspective of North Korean defectors to look at South Koreans, who were surrounded by pleasure and materialism, offered an opportunity for us to reflect on how we looked. Literary works that depict the lives of North Korean defectors in South Korea will play a very critical role in overcoming the separation between two Koreas and finding ways to the integration of two Koreas. In future, the literature of North Korean defectors should expand into advanced unification literature beyond separation literature by searching for the ways to narrow the cultural gap between North and South Korea based on the awareness of those issues, encouraging the South Korean society that's losing human morality to engage in strict self-reflection, and probing the matter of reeducating North Korean defectors.
