국문 초록

본고에서는 식민지 근대의 이중성과 글쓰기를 중심으로 이선희 소설에 나타난 모더니즘적 특성을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이선희는 고도의 심리주의 기법과 낭만성 등으로 여성들의 현실인식과 정체성 회복을 모색해 나갔다. 이러한 이선희의 소설에는 도시적 미의식과 도시적 삶에 대한 글쓰기가 주인공들이 경성을 중심으로 주변을 바라보는 눈(目), 시선을 통해 잘 나타나고 있어 여성 문학세계의 확장을 시도하고 있다. ‘외출’을 통한 자의식의 내면화와 도시공간의 탐색을 통한 이중적 현실의 확인, 그리고 미결정적 사유제시로의 정체성 모색 등은 그것을 잘 나타내 주고 있다. 이는 인간의 진정한 존재성을 내적 체험과 의식의 상황 및 흐름에서 발견하고자 하는 ‘의식의 시선’이라 하겠다. 이것은 1930년대 대표적인 여성 작가인 강경애, 박화성 소설에 나타나는 현실의 극명한 반영으로써의 글쓰기와는 다른 차별점으로, 1930년대 모더니즘 소설의 특성을 여성 작가인 이선희 소설로 확인할 수 있는 근거가 된다. 이는 식민지 근대의 이중성과 작가의 글쓰기 관계 속에서 작품의 가능성과 한계를 고찰해 보게 한다. 또한 여성의 시선에 나타나는 식민지 근대의 이중적인 모습을 살펴볼 수 있게 함으로써 이선희 문학의 본질을 좀 더 심층적으로 고찰해 볼 수 있게 한다. 또한 문학의 존재 방식을 어떻게 규율하는가에 대한 심도 있는 논의를 가능하게 하는 것으로, 글쓰기란 어떠한 방식으로든 당대의 반영이자 근대적 주체로서 작가가 생산해 낸 시대에 대한 문학적 대응임을 알 수 있게 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the novels by Lee Seon- hee for their modernist characteristics with a focus on the dualism and writing in the early colonial modern times. Lee can be characterized by her search for women’s perception of reality and recovery of their identities through the highly advanced techniques of psychologism and romanticism. In her novels, she attempts to expand the literary world of women through the eyes or viewpoints of the main characteristics around Seoul by making use of her urban aesthetic consciousness and writing about an urban life. Her attempts are well reflected in her internalization of her self-consciousness through “going out,” her confirmation of the dual reality in a search of urban space, and her search for an identity as uncrystalline thinking. They also represent “her eye of consciousness” to discover the true existence of humans in internal experiences and the situations and flows of consciousness. That’s what separates her writing from that of Kang Gyeong-ae and Park Hwa-seong, who were the foremost female writers in the 1930s, with extremely clear reflection of reality. It also provides the grounds to confirm the characteristics of the modernist novels in the 1930s in the novels of Lee, a female writer. It takes into consideration the potential and limitations of her works in the relations between the dualism of the early colonial modern times and a writer. It further allows for a more in- depth consideration of the nature of Lee’s literature by examining the dual aspects of the early colonial modern times seen from the female viewpoint. Making it possible to discuss how the existential methods of literature can be regulated in-depth, it suggests that writing is the reflection of contemporary days in any ways and the writer’s literary responses to the times.
