具滋均의 국문학 연구, 그 의의와 과제

국문 초록

구자균은 온전한 형태의 ‘한국문학사’를 남기지는 못하였으나, 한국문학사 서술에 대한 일관된 관심을 견지하고 있었고, 우리 문학사의 전개에 대한 날카로운 시각을 보여 주었다. 그의 문학사 시대구분의 분기점은 왕조의 교체나 정치사회적 변환에 맞추어진 것이 아니라, 언어와 문학의 변화에 맞추어져 있었다. 특히 18-19세기를 근대화가 내적으로 준비된 과정을 보여 준‘근세화과정’으로 보면서, 委巷人이 큰 역할을 담당했던 것으로 파악했다. 현대문학사의 전개에 있어서도 카프 문학의 등장과 해산을 가장 중요한 사건으로 간주함으로써 평민 중심의 사관을 견지하고 있음이 확인된다. 구자균은 평민문학의 개념을 정립하고, 많은 관련문헌을 섭렵하여 평민문학의 史的구도를 제시하였다. 특히 張混에 대한 깊이 있는 고찰을 통해, 우리 문학의 근대화가 장혼과 같은 근세적 문인들의 성장 위에서 가능했던 것 임을 입증하고자 했다. 구자균은 稗官文學의 보고인 파한집․용재총화 와 고전소설 춘향전 의 역주서를 남겨 주었거니와, 우리 고전소설에 관한 몇 가지 탁견을 제시해 주었다. 구자균의 학문적 위상은 동시대의 학자들과 비교된다. 조윤제가 우파적 신민족주의를 지향함으로써 계급적 관념을 경시했다면, 김태준․이명선․구자균은 계급적 관념에 입각하여 민중의 역사적 가치를 중시하였다. 그러면서도 김태준은 “계급적인 것을 통해 민족적인 것에 접근하는 것”을 의도한 반면, 이명선은 유물사관에 투철하여 우리의 문학사를 “계급적 모순과 세계사적 보편성의 관점에서 이해하고자” 했으며, 구자균은 근대 선행기의 평민문학의 역할에 주목하는 비급적인 민중사관을 보여 주었다.

영문 초록

Gu, Jagyun(1912-1964) had been interested in the writing on the history of Korean literature throughout his life even though he had not left ‘the History of Korean Literature’ in perfect formation. I consider that his principal topics were ‘modernity’ and ‘commoner’ in the writing on the history of Korean literature. Gu called from 18th to 19th century ‘a modernization process’. He grasped that modernization movement in each genre of classic literature spontaneously developed during resisting against medieval feudalism and advocating human nature. Therefore he concluded that middle people, the illegitimate births and petty clerks, these commoners' literature did a important role. His view had the pioneer significance, because it was the first objection to the opinion of modernization under the Western civilization's influence. Gu's most important academic achievement is Joseon Pyeongmin Munhaksa(The History of Commoner's Literature in Joseon). It is valued that the historical framework of commoner's literature was presented by using the method of literary sociology after having read through numerous literatures. Gu, Jagyun left annotated editions of Pahanjip․Yongjaechonghwa and Chunhyangjeon. In some studies, he showed distinguished views about classical novels. He first raised doubts on the philological matter of “Okrumong” and sowed the viewpoint of comparative literature between Korean and Chinese novel through “Okrumong”. And he interpreted that Chunhyang and Yidoryeong had ‘the forward-looking spirit that tried to create new era’ and emphasized its futuristic meaning. Moreover, he regarded “Gyechukilgi”, “Inhyeonwanghujeon” and “Hanjungrok” as court novel or letters between women style-novel against Jo, Yunje's opinion that those works were court descriptive style or diaries.
