국문 초록

  조선 후기 역사ㆍ전기문학은 두 차례의 큰 전쟁을 겪으면서 크게 융성해지기 시작한다. 각 개인의 문집이나 각 고을의 읍지에 실린 인물전을 비롯하여 위인들의 전을 모은 〈해동명신록〉 〈해동명장전〉 등의 전기집이 쏟아져 나왔다.
  이들 역사ㆍ전기문학은 근대계몽기로 이어져 신문 잡지에 위인들의 전기인 인물기사가 연재되기 시작하였다. 초기 형태는 조선후기의 역사ㆍ전기문학을 읽기 편하게 그 시대의 요구에 맞춰 현토하는 작업에서 시작하였다. 그런 다음 그것에 바탕을 두어 창작의 단계로 나아가는 역사 전기 문학의 발전과정이 있었다.
  이 시기의 역사ㆍ전기문학을 논할 때 양계초의 〈이태리건국삼걸전〉의 번역 등 외국문학과의 연관을 거론하지 않을 수 없는데, 그에 못지않게 조선후기의 한문으로 된 역사ㆍ전기문학의 영향도 컸던 것으로 파악된다. 이 사실을 추적하는 중에 박은식이 주필로 있던 시기에 나온 『서우』의 인물기사는 박은식이 쓴 것이 아니라 홍양호의 『해동명장전』등 조선후기 역사ㆍ전기문학을 옮긴 것임을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

  Historic biographical writings in Late Chosun Dynasty began to flourish after the two great war experiences. Biographical Collections of great people such as 〈Haidong-Myeongsin-rok〉 or 〈Haidong-Myeongjang-jeon〉 largely came into view, as well as individual anthologies and Eup-ji (Town Chronicles and Geographies) of each county.
  Since these historic biographical writings were succeeded to in the Korean Enlightenment Period, articles on characters, i.e. biographies of the greats, were published serially on newspapers or magazines. The early form hereof started from the works to add Korean suffixes to the end of Chinese phrases in order to make it easier to read, according to the requirement of the times. And then there came a development phase, in which historic biographical writings advanced to the stage of creation, based on the said works.
  Treating of the historic biographical writings of this time, it is hard to avoid mentioning its relation to foreign literature, for instance, the translation of Liang Qi Chao’s 〈Three Heroes of Italian Nationhood〉. In addition, the historic biographical writings written in Chinese in Late Chosun Dynasty had as much an influence. Investigating this fact, I discovered that the articles on characters, carried in 『Seo-u』 during Park Eun Shik’s service as its chief editor, were not written by Park himself, but reproduced 『Haidong-Myeongjang-jeon』 which was written by Hong Yang Ho.
