국문 초록

  ‘七十二鷗亭’, ‘上下三千年縱橫十萬里之室’이라는 추사의 당호는 당시에 매우 기이하게 인식되었다. 이 당호들은 ‘數’에 대한 추사의 각별한 주의를 보여주며, 추사의 미의식을 규명할 수 있는 단초를 제공한다.
  추사의 시에도 다양한 ‘수’들이 시어로 활용된다. ‘白髮三千丈’, ‘三萬六千觴’, ‘鴛鴦七十二’, ‘四百四病’, ‘葛藤千七百’, ‘八萬四千偈’, ‘無量百億千’, ‘？花百億’, ‘三十萬樹’, ‘百六十三多品’, ‘一萬八千字’ 등이 대표적 예라 할 수있다. 여기에 들어 있는 ‘수’는 대부분 이미 한시에서 활용되어온 것인데, 그 전거의 유래에 따라 한시, 불경, 고증학 분야로 구분해 볼 수 있다. 추사는 다양한 전거와 의미맥락 속에서 ‘수’를 활용했음을 보여준다.
  ‘수’는 이성적이며 과학적 인식의 산물이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 시어로 활용된 ‘수’는 정확성의 여부를 떠나 이지적이면서도 단순명료한 이미지를 형성한다. 또한 이성에 직접 호소하는 직감적 효과와 가장 단순한 언어로 풍부한 의미를 환기시키는 미적 효과를 강화시킨다. 특히 ‘수’로 대구를 구사하는 방식은 이지적인 구성력에 의한 반복과 대칭의 미를 부각시킴으로써 형식미의 일단을 보여주기도 한다.
  외면은 단순하고 쉽지만 그 내면에는 깊은 의미가 함축되어 있는 시를 추사는 높이 평가하였다. 시에서 ‘수’의 활용은 바로 이러한 심미적 이상을 구현하는 한 가지 방법이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 전거를 지닌 익숙한 ‘수’를 활용한다는 점에서 고전미를 함축하고 있으며, ‘수’의 理智的 이미지를 부각시킨다는 점에서 지성미를 동시에 구현하는 방식이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

  Chusa’s pen name of ‘七十二鷗亭’, ‘上下三千年縱橫十萬里之室’ was recognized extraordinarily eccentrically at the time. This pen name implies his peculiar caution to the ‘number’ and it also provides a clue that discloses Chusa"s aesthetic consciousness.
  Various ‘numbers’ were utilized as poetic words in the Chusa"s poetry. Some of examples can be classified into ‘白髮三千丈’, ‘三萬六千觴’, ‘鴛鴦七十二’, ‘四百四病’, ‘葛藤千七百’, ‘八萬四千偈’, ‘無量百億千’, ‘？花百億’, ‘三十萬樹’, ‘一萬八千字’, ‘百六十三多品’. The ‘numbers’ attached herein were mainly used in the Chinese poetry, which can be categorized into Chusa poetry, a Buddhist scriptures, a bibliographical study of Chinese classics depending upon its source.
  The ‘number’ is an output of reasonable and scientific recognition. Accordingly the ‘number’ developed with poetic words had shown the aesthetics of simple but clear poetic words as well as intellectual recognition not to speak of its exactness. Furthermore, it had created aesthetic effect evoking abundant meaning with the simplest language in addition to intuitive effect appealing to reasons directly. Most of all, the type that realizes antithesis with ‘numbers’ had shown the beauty of repetition and symmetry that could be visually realized by intellectual power.
  Chusa spoke highly that the outer appearance is simple and easy, but inside the poetry is meaning in compression. The utilization of the ‘number’ in the poetry was one of the methods to embody spiritual aesthetic ideology. In addition, it was a part of clues in the poet about his intellectual beauty that he had pursued of.
