국문 초록

본 연구는 환경의 구조화가 정신지체 아동간의 의사소통에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 정신지체 아동의 또래간 의사소통을 촉진시켜 줄 수 있는 환경 조건과 그 효과에 관해서 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 언어연령이 3~4세인 학령기 정신지체 아동 10명을 선발하고, 2명씩 짝지어 5개의 또래 집단으로 구성하였다. 이들이 비구조화된 놀이 환경과 구조화된 놀이 환경에서 산출한 또래간 의사소통의 빈도와 형태, 그리고 의도의 종류를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 정신지체 아동은 비구조화된 놀이 환경에서 보다 구조화된 놀이 환경에서 더 빈번하게 또래와 의사소통을 하였다. 그러나 의사소통 형태나 의도에 있어서는 놀이 환경 간 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 의사소통 형태에 있어서, 정신지체 아동들은 두 환경 모두에서 몸짓/발성보다는 발화를 더욱 빈번하게 사용하였고, 각 형태의 산출 비율은 환경 조건에 따라 변화하지 않았다. 정신지체 아동들이 산출한 의사소통 의도로는, 두 환경 조건 모두에서 요구하기가 가장 큰 비율을 차지하였고 다음으로는 반응하기, 주관적 진술, 메시지 수신, 객관적 언급의 순서로 산출되어, 환경 조건 간 차이는 두드러지지 않았다. 결론적으로, 환경을 구조화시키는 것은 정신지체 아동간의 의사소통 빈도를 증가시키는 촉진적 효과를 가져오지만, 의사소통의 형태나 의도에서의 질적 변화는 야기하지 않는 것 같다.

영문 초록

In the present study, we investigated whether the structural changes of communication environment influenced on the frequencies, forms, and intentions of communicative behaviors among children with mental retardation. Five pairs of school-aged children with mental-retardation participated in the study. The language ages of the 10 children ranged from 3 to 4 years. After two times of pre-play sessions, each pair of children were asked to play for 30 minutes in an unstructured environment followed by another 30-minutes play in a structured environment. The frequencies and forms of their communicative behaviors and the types of communicative intentions were analyzed by watching the video-recordings of each pair's play activities in two different settings. Their communicative behaviors were significantly more frequent in the structured setting than in the unstructured setting. However, no pronounced differences were observed in the proportions of the communicative forms and the types of communicative intentions across the settings. Thus, structuralization of the communication environments appears to have facilitative effect on the quantity of communication in children with mental retardation.
