국문 초록

본 연구는 사건의 개념에 비추어 사회과 수업과 사건의 관계를 밝히고 그 교육적 의미를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 사건은 기존의 원칙으로는 알기 어려운 특별한 사유와 감각을 강요받는 순간적이고 돌발적인 사태로, 존재는 사건과 마주침으로써 그것에 주의를 전향하고 의지를 가지며 이전과 다른 새로운 존재에 이르게 된다. 사건은 기존의 사회과 수업, 이를테면 특정 개념과 견고한 이론으로는 주목할 수 없었던 지금 여기 교실 공간에서 일어나는 현상과 문제에 주목하도록 함으로써, 그동안 간과해 온 실제 사회현상과 문제 사태를 감지하고 인식하도록 유도한다. 이때 사건을 마주하는 존재는 문제를 간파하고 의미화하는 사유의 과정을 경험함으로써 이전과 다른 존재로 변화한다. 사회과 수업에서 사건은 주체를 자발적이고 능동적인 시민으로 성장시키는 매개가 되는 것이다. 그러므로 사건은 사회과 수업에서 인간과 세계 간의 복잡한 관계와 문제를 인식할 수 있는 교육 내용의 매개체이자 촉발 기제이며, 사회과교육 받은 존재, 즉 새로운 시민 되기의 생성 과정에 깊이 관계하는 요인이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the relationship between social studies instruction and events in light of event discourse, and to examine their educational significance. An event is a momentary and unexpected occurrence that compels one to confront unique reasoning and sensations that cannot be understood by conventional principles. Through an encounter with an event, existence redirects its attention and will, ultimately leading to a new form of existence that is distinct from its prior state. Events prompt a focus on phenomena and issues occurring within the present classroom space—matters that cannot be addressed by conventional social studies lessons, such as specific concepts and solidified theories—thus encouraging the recognition of real-world social phenomena and issues that have previously been overlooked. In this process, the subject confronting the event undergoes a transformation through the cognitive process of grasping and ascribing meaning to the problem, evolving into a new form of existence. In social studies education, events serve as a medium for fostering the development of a proactive and engaged citizen. Therefore, events can be regarded as a critical educational tool for recognizing the complex relationships and issues between humans and the world. They are deeply connected to the process of becoming a newly informed citizen, formed through social studies education.
