성인의 발화 수준에 따른 유아의 영상 내용 이해와 우연적 단어학습의 차이

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 영상을 시청할 때 함께 시청하는 성인이 제공하는 발화의 수준에 따라, 영상에 대한 내용 이해와 우연적 단어학습에 차이가 나타나는지를 살펴보기 위해 수행되었다. 연구방법: 4세 유아 100명을 고관여 발화 집단, 저관여 발화 집단, 무발화 집단에 각각 무선할당하였다. 유아들이 아동용 유튜브 영상을 시청하는 동안, 실험자는 집단별로 서로 다른 발화를 유아에게 제공하였다. 영상 시청 후, 유아에게 영상과 관련한 내용을 얼마나 이해하였는지와, 영상에 등장한 새로운 단어를 얼마나 학습하였는지를 측정하였다. 집단별 점수에 차이가 있는지 살펴보기 위해 공분산분석(ANCOVA)과 Bonferroni 주효과검정을 실시하였다. 연구결과: 성인의 발화 수준에 따라 유아의 영상 내용 이해와 우연적 단어학습 정도에 차이가 있었다. 그중 고관여 발화 집단과 저관여 발화 집단, 고관여 발화 집단과 무발화 집단 간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나, 고관여 발화 집단에서 내용 이해와 우연적 단어학습이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 영상 시청 시 성인이 공동시청하며 수준 높은 발화를 제공하는 것은, 유아의 언어발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether there was a difference in comprehension of the content and acquisition of incidental word learning while watching a video according to different adult’s utterance levels. Methods: A total of 100 participants of 4-year-old were randomly assigned to one of three groups: the high-involvement utterance group, low-involvement utterance group, and no utterance group. The experimenter provided the children pre-scripted utterances in each group. After watching each video, tasks were provided to measure extent of the children’s comprehension of video content and the number of novel words that appeared in the video. Results: There was a significant difference in comprehension of video content and the average number of incidental word learning in each group depending on the adult speech. Specifically, between the high involvement utterance group and the low involvement utterance group, the high involvement utterance group and no utterance group. In other words, high utterance group statistically showed better performance in the tasks compared to other two groups. Conclusions: Adults’ conscious utterances plays a positive role in supporting children’s language and cognitive development by offering clues to enhance their comprehension and directing their attention to novel vocabulary.
