대학 학생성공 해외 연구동향 분석: 상세 서지정보 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 대학 학생성공 관련 해외 연구동향과 주요 이슈를 분석함으로써 국내 고등교육 연구 및 실천을 위한 시사점을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 Clarivate Analytics의 웹 데이터베이스 Web of Science에 등재된 SSCI 및 Scopus급 학술지 615건을 추출하였다. 연구방법으로 상세 서지정보 분석을 적용하였고, 분석을 위해 RStudio의 bibliometrix 패키지를 활용하였다. 상세 서지정보 분석결과, 학생성공 관련 연구는 2000년대 후반 발행 추이가 증가하기 시작하였고, 특히 2010년대 중반 이후 큰 폭으로 증가하였다. 미국 등 주로 서구권 국가에서 대다수의 연구가 수행되었고, 국가 간 공동연구의 비중은 낮았다. 분석대상 논문의 인용정보 및 저자･키워드 등에 대한 빈도 분석을 통해 학생성공 관련 연구는 학생유지 및 학생 몰입과 같은 개념적 토대와의 연관성을 바탕으로 도입･확산되었음을 확인하였다. 학생성공 관련 키워드 공동출현 네트워크는 다음과 같이 5개의 클러스터로 구분되었다: (1)온라인 환경에서 교수･학습 및 평가, (2)학생유지 관련 기관수준의 학생지원 및 실증적 접근, (3)대학위기에 대응하는 처방으로써 학생 심리적･정서적 측면, (4)학생 몰입 및 경험 기반 학생지향 관점, (5)community college 중심 경력개발 및 성인교육과의 연계. 마지막으로, 키워드 네트워크 및 주제구조 분석을 통해 학생성공 관련 연구는 타학문 분야와의 연계를 바탕으로 경험적･실증적인 측면에서 다양한 영역에 걸쳐 수행되고 있음을 확인하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 국내 고등교육 맥락에서 학생성공 개념의 확장 및 적용을 위한 학술적･실천적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine international research trends with respect to student success in the field of higher education. In order to address the study’s purpose, we collected scholarly articles that addressed issues and topics concerning student success published between 1974 and 2023. This study employed bibliometric analysis targeted towards bibliometric information of a total of 615 articles housed in SSCI- and Scopus-indexed journals. The information was extracted from the Web of Science, a web database powered by Clarivate Analytics. For data analysis, we utilized the bibliometrix package in RStudio. The study’s findings show that the quantity of articles on student success has increased since the late 2000s, especially surging since the mid-2010s. The majority of these investigations were conducted in Western countries, predominantly the United States, and international collaboration was scarce. Through the frequency analysis of co-citation data, author, and key terms, it was revealed that the foundational underpinnings of student success have been rooted in the concepts of student retention and student engagement. According to the results of keyword co-occurrence network analysis, we categorized sub-themes into five clusters: (a) teaching and learning assessments within online environments, (b) institutional support and empirical approaches for student retention, (c) psychological and emotional aspects responding to student crisis, (d) student engagement and experience-based student-oriented perspectives, and (e) associations with adult education and career development in community colleges. Finally, the study’s findings from thematic analysis demonstrate that research on student success has emerged based on inter- and intra-collaborations within and across various domains of studies. Based on the findings, academic and practical implications are suggested for research and practice in South Korea’s higher education context.
