왕실의 인물을 바라보는 시선 - 『종반행적(宗班行蹟)』에 담긴 15세기 관각문학의 일면 -

국문 초록

이 연구는 종반행적(宗班行蹟)에 수록된 15세기 종친들의 묘도문자로부터 관각문학적 특징을 발견하려는 시도이다. 종친은 군왕의 부계 친족이자 군신관계에 놓인 특수한 신분이다. 종반행적에는 이러한 종친들의 전기자료가 수록되어 있다. 15세기 종친들의 묘도문자는 서거정, 임사홍, 홍귀달, 남곤 등 유력 관각문인들이 창작하였는데, 작품 대부분이 이들의 문집에 수록되지 않아 자료적 가치가 높다. 종반행적에 수록된 15세기 창작 종친 묘도문자의 관각문학적 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이들 작품에는 고귀한 왕실의 혈통에 대한 찬양과 존모가 담겨 있다. 특히 종친의 세계를 서술하는 과정에서 세종과 성종대의 태평성대를 남달리 칭송하는 경향을 보인다. 이는 15세기의 종친들이 세종과 성종대의 문운 융성기를 함께 견인해 온 관각문인들에게 태평성대를 회상하게 하는 인적 증거로 기능한 결과이다. 둘째, 종친을 대하는 군왕의 내밀한 사적 감정을 거침없이 묘사하고 있다. 특히 부왕 혹은 형제로서 군왕의 가족애를 부각시키는 일화를 삽입하고 생생하게 묘사하는 특징이 있다. 이는 사적 일화의 삽입이 만백성의 너그러운 부모로서 군왕의 이미지를 실추시키는 것이 아니라고 판단한 결과로 보인다. 셋째, 종친들은 독서에 침잠하거나 학문에 대한 열정이 깊고, 예술에 대한 깊은 조예를 타고난 인물들로 형상화된다. 하지만 그와 같은 면모를 드러내는 특수한 일화가 아닌 정형화된 표현을 반복함으로써 왕실의 위계 질서에 순응하며 정치적 안정에 기여하는 규범적 종친상(像)을 독자들에게 제시하고 있다. 15세기의 관각문인들은 종친들의 모범적 삶을 통해 조선의 태평성대를 증명하고 회상한다. 그러나 왕실의 정책에 반발하거나 비판을 하는 등 정치적으로 문제가 된 종친들의 묘도문자 창작은 도외시하거나 역사적 평가 자체를 외면한 아쉬움도 낳았다.

영문 초록

This study examines the characteristics of Gwangak literature from the epitaph of the 15th century royal family, which were included in Jongbanhaengjuk(宗班行蹟). The royal family[宗親] is a paternal relative of the king and a special status that is placed in the relationship between the king and his servant. The epitaph of the royal family in the 15th century were written by influential Gwangak writer such as Seo Geo-jeong(徐居正), Lim Sa-hong(任士洪), Hong Gwi-dal(洪貴達), and Nam Gon(南袞). The epitaph on the 15th century s royal family in Jongbanhaengjuk shows the following three characteristics. First, these works include praise and honor for the noble royal lineage. In particular, they tend to praise King Sejong and King Seongjong s political tability. This is the result of the 15th century s royal family functioning as human evidence to remind the to them, who have led the booming period of Sejong and Seongjong, to the Taepyeongseongdae(太平聖代). Second, it describes the king s private feelings toward his family without hesitation. In particular, it features anecdotes that highlight the family love of the king and vividly depict them. This seems to be the result of judging that the insertion of personal anecdotes does not undermine the image of the king as generous parents of the people. Third, on the other side of the normative life of the royal family, it shows an anecdote emphasizing that they are people who are immersed in reading and are born with a deep knowledge of art. By repeating the stereotyped expression, the writers present to the reader the image of a normative figure who conforms to the hierarchical order of the royal family and contributes to political stability. The 15th century Gwangak writer recall the Joseon s peaceful times through the exemplary lives of royal families. However, they did not create the epitaph of the problematic royal family, which opposed or criticized the royal family s policies, and turned a blind eye to its historical assessment. This contrast is in line with other Gwangak literature in the 15th century.
