융의 심리학에 나타난 아니마의 세 층위

국문 초록

융의 심리학에서 아니마는 세 층위로 구분하여 규정할 수 있다. 심리적 성향으로서의 아니마, 내적 인격으로서의 아니마, 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마가 그것이다. 심리적 성향으로서의 아니마는 남성에 내재해 있는 여성성으로서, 경험적 마음의 작용을 가리킨다. 내적 인격으로서의 아니마는 외적 인격으로서의 페르소나와 비교될 수 있는 것으로서, 개인적 수준의 무의식을 가리킨다. 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마는 원형적 성격의 무의식이 발휘하는 힘으로서, 초개인적 수준의 영혼을 가리킨다. 여러 층위에서 규정되는 아니마를 수미일관된 것으로 받아들이기 위해서는, 그 다양한 설명에도 불구하고 그것을 정확히 어떻게 파악하는 것이 타당한가 하는 점을 규명할 필요가 있다. 그것은 여러 층위에서 규정되는 아니마를 하나로 수렴하여 파악할 때 밝혀질 수 있다. 세 층위의 아니마 중에서 다른 층위의 아니마를 수렴하는 것은 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마이다. 심리적 성향과 내적 인격으로서의 아니마는 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마―즉, 영혼―가 각각 의식적 수준과 개인적 수준에서 구현된 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이렇게 볼 때, 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마는 다른 두 층위의 아니마와 동일한 성격의 것으로 간주할 수 없다. 앞의 두 층위의 아니마가 경험적 수준의 것이라면, 집단 무의식의 역동으로서의 아니마는 형이상학적 수준의 것으로 볼 수 있는 것이다. 그 점이 엄격히 규정되지 않고서는, 심층의 마음을 탐구하는 융의 이론은 정합된 이론으로 받아들여지기 어렵다.

영문 초록

The anima in Jung’s psychology can be explained by distinguishing three phases of it: the psychological tendency, the inner personality, and the dynamics of the collective unconscious. The anima as the psychological tendency, which is the feminine psychological tendency in a man’s mind, refers to the operation of empirical mind ; the anima as the inner personality, which is contrast to persona as outer personality, refers to the personal unconscious ; the anima as the dynamics of the collective unconscious which the archetypal unconscious exerts, refers to suprapersonal soul. To grasp the anima being defined in several phases as a coherent one, it is necessary to figure out how it should be understood appropriately in spite of the various explanations of it. This is possible when trying to apprehend anima being defined in several phases which converge into one. What converges the other two phases of anima into one is the anima as the dynamics of the collective unconscious. The anima as the psychological tendency and as inner personality are the expression of the dynamics of the collective unconscious at the conscious and the personal level respectively. In this sense, the anima as the dynamics of the collective unconscious cannot be regarded as the one identical with the other two phases of anima. While the latter ones are said to be the anima at the empirical level, the former can be regarded as the anima at the metaphysical level. As long as three phases of anima is not clearly distinguished, it is impossible to explain Jung’s theory of the mind of depth as coherent theory.
