韓⋅日 陽明學 비교연구의 목적과 의미, 그리고 그 방향성

국문 초록

한국은 일본에 비교하여 볼 때, 왜 근대화 과정이 늦었는가? 동아시아의 근대화 과정에서 작동되었던 철학은 무엇인가? 필자는 그 동력원이 ‘양명학’에 있었다고 전제한다. 양명학은 당시 한국과 일본에서도 주목받지 못했던 학문이었다. 그러나 한국과 일본은 근대화 과정에서 사뭇 다른 양상을 보였다. 그것은 바로 양명학을 수용하였는가, 아니면 양명학을 배척하였는가에 관건이 있다. 왜냐하면 시대와 사상이 변모하는 격동기에, 사람들의 의식구조를 개혁할 수 있는 동력원은 무엇보다도 그 당시 사람들이 가졌던 ‘가치관’과 ‘세계관’이었고, 이를 정립시켜줄 수 있는 기반으로 시의성을 갖추고 있었던 ‘양명철학’이 근저에 있었다고 판단되기 때문이다. 한국에서는 양명학이 사문난적이었고, 일본에서는 사상계의 자유로움이 오히려 변화하는 세계를 각자의 입장에서 수용할 수 있는 사상적 여유를 갖게 있었다. 일본에서 여러 철학들이 자유롭게 수용될 수 있었던 것이야말로 다양한 관점을 받아들일 수 있는 준비가 되었음을 보여주는 것이다. 그러나 이 논문은 한국과 일본의 양명학을 단순히 규명하거나, 혹은 기존의 韓⋅中 陽明學을 비교하는 것과는 다르다. 연구 외연의 폭을 넓혀, 동아시아 근대화과정에서 ‘역사성’과 ‘지역성’의 범주 하에, 양명학이라는 학문사조가 개인적 가치관은 물론, 국가관에까지 어떠한 영향력을 시사하였는지를 탐색할 필요에 주목하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국(조선)에서의 양명학 존재 양상과 비판 근거를 찾아보고, 일본에서의 양명학 발생 및 전파 과정에 탐색하는 의의를 찾고자 하였다. 물론 그 사상적 배경과 원인은 문헌에 전거를 두고 출발하였음을 차제에 밝힌다.

영문 초록

Compared to Japan, why was Korea late in modernization(近代化)? What was the philosophy that worked in the modernization process of East Asia? The Analects presuppose that the power source was in ‘Studies of Yangming(陽明哲學)’. ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’ was a study that was not seen in Korea(朝鮮) and Japan at the time. However, Korea and Japan showed quite different aspects in the process of modernization. It is important whether or not bisexualism is accepted or not accepted. Because in the turbulent times of changing times and ideas, the source of power to reform people’s consciousness structure would have been, among other things, the ‘value(價値觀)’ and ‘worldview(世界觀)’ people had at that time. And the foundation for establishing these would have been ‘Studies of Yangming(陽明哲學)’. Yang Ming-hak had a thorough sense of the times. In Korea, ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’ was the subject of criticizing and betraying the existing regime. On the other hand, the free climate of thought has become prevalent in Japan, and there have been many people who study ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’. It is an undeniable fact. The fact that various philosophies in Japan have been freely accepted shows that they are ready to accept various views. But the paper is not simply clarifying the two-faced theories of Korea and Japan. Nor is it to compare how ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’ was studied in existing Korea and Japan. The article emphasized the need to expand the scope of the study to explore how ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’ has affected both individuals and countries under the criteria of ‘historical(歷史性)’ and ‘locality(地域性)’ in the process of modernization in East Asia. Therefore, 1st: this paper looked into the aspects of the existence of ‘Yang Myung-hak’ in Korea(朝鮮), 2nd: the basis for criticizing ‘Yang Myung-hak(陽明學)’, and 3rd: the development and genealogy of ‘Yang Myung-hak’ in Japan, and 4th: the significance of exploring the propagation process of ‘Yang Myung-hak’. Of course, the ideological background and cause began based on the Chinese classics(漢文古典文獻).
