야외교육의 체육교육적 가치와 실천에 대한 사례연구

국문 초록

국가수준의 체육과교육과정에는 야외교육이 추구하는 내용들이들이 포함되어 있다. 예를 들면 중학교 2학년에 ‘자연과 여가활동’에 ‘자연형 여가활동 계획 및 실천’, 3학년에 ‘지구촌 여가의 이해’ 등이다. 여가의 가치를 체육교과에서 포함시키는 것은 상징적 의미가 있다. 하지만 환경, 생태, 공동체 등의 가치를 어떻게 가르칠 수 있는가에 대한 고민이 부족하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 야외교육이 추구하는 다양한 가치들이 구현되는 과정을 구체적으로 이해하고자 한다. 그 과정은 야외교육을 43년간 실천해 오고 있는 B국제기구의 프로그램 과정을 사례연구를 통해 분석하였다. 이를 근거로 야외교육의 체육교육적 가치를 구체화하였다. 우선 야외교육이 필요한 이유에 대해 인간의 생존의 문제로 보았다. 야외교육의 가치를 ‘생태’, ‘환경’, ‘실천’, ‘공동체’로 구분하여 제시했다. 이 가치는 체험교육을 기반으로 이루어진다. 야외교육의 전문성으로는 학생 주도성, 촉진성, 프로그램의 다양성, 실천성으로 분석하였다. 결국 학생들이 생활 속에서 ‘실천’하기 위해서는 통제 중심의 교육에서 위와 같은 네 가지 가치를 가르칠 수 있는 전문성을 요구한다는 것이다. 마지막으로 학교현장에 적용하기 위한 시사점으로 공식적 교육과정과 비공식적 교육과정의 예로 제시하였다. 결국, 야외교육은 목표와 내용의 다양성, 전문적 교수법, 다양한 가치를 담보할 수 있는 평가의 과정이 필요하다

영문 초록

Physical activities emphasized by outdoor education are included in schools physical education curricula according to national standards. Unfortunately, the research thus far has narrowly focused on the idea of finding value in leisure, while overlooking other aspects of outdoor education. In addition, it has been difficult to carry out many of the activities due to a number of environmental and educational obstacles. This study attempts to bring something different to the field by consulting programs run by international organizations (that have 43 years of experience) and re-conceptualizing physical educational values provided through outdoor education. Firstly, the necessity of outdoor education is based on human need or survival. Outdoor education can be broken down into four aspects: ecology, environment, practice, and community. These four aspects provide the basis for experiential learning. In order for outdoor education to be run properly, it must contain the following four characteristics: process-orientation, promotion, spontaneity, and diversity. In tightly regimented education systems, students will eventually demand the above-mentioned characteristics. Lastly, specific goals need to be set for outdoor education, and it is also important to consider the implications with regards to formal and non-formal curricula.
