전시, 소통, 포스트 뮤지움 : 서울시립 북서울 미술관의 전시 <코끼리 주름 펼치다>와 <끼리끼리 코끼리>를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 뮤지움을 넘어선다는 의미를 가진 포스트 뮤지움의 특징이 전시를 통하여 어떻게 구체적으로 구현될 수 있는 지를 전시를 중심으로 한 소통이라는 측면에서 고찰해 보고자 한 다. 이를 위해 먼저 포스트 뮤지움의 이론적 체계를 시각문화, 해석학적 특징, 전시의 전략이 라는 측면에서 살펴보았고, 전시사례분석을 통하여 이러한 이론적 체계들이 어떻게 실제적으 로 현장에서 구체화 될 수 있는 지를 분석하였으며, 전시 관람자의 반응을 통해 포스트 뮤지 움 전시의 교육적 효과를 고찰하였다. 전시 사례 분석은 서울시립 북서울미술관에서 전시된 두 개의 전시 <코끼리 주름 펼치다>와 <끼리끼리 코끼리>를 중심으로 이루어졌으며, 분석 결과, 시각문화의 전시, 스토리 텔링을 통한 전시의 내러티브의 제시, 개인적 맥락의 제시, 다 각도의 해석의 제시, 지역사회와의 소통의 시도, 텍스트를 통한 간섭이라는 전략이 두 전시에 서 포스트 뮤지움의 의사소통을 강화하기 위하여 시도되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해, 시각문화의 전시와 더불어 전시를 통한 해석의 경험에서 관람자의 경험을 어떻게 수평적으로 확대할 수 있는 지의 여부가 포스트 뮤지움으로써 박물관의 내연과 외연을 확장시킬 수 있음 을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The post-museum, as the term coined by Hooper-Greenhill, means that the mission and practice of a museum is different from those of a general museum, going beyond a general museum, which is called as the modernist museum by Hooper-Greenhill. In a post-museum, the meaning-making process of visitors is more important than the meaning of object. Instead, a object becomes a social and provocative object which brings up conversation among visitors. In this research study, I focus on this type of interpretive communication in the in-between space. In this context, the purpose of this study is to identify the communicative characteristics of post-museum, focusing on two art exhibitions which employ narrative into exhibits and enhance participatory elements into exhibition. As a result of investigation, I can find that communicative characteristics would be the incorporation of visual cultures in art exhibition, implicit exhibitional narrative through storytelling, the incorporation of a personal context, the presentation of multiple perspectives, efforts toward community-based engagement, and intervention through texts into the exhibition, thereby trying to breaking and expanding the boundary of museum. Finally, this research concludes that one of the most important elements of a post-museum would be a issue of how to create holistic interpretive experience for visitors in art exhibition.
