차원적 사고(dimensional thinking) 훈련을 위한 미술교육 방안-대학생의 종이조형 수업 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 21세기 핵심 역량으로서 사고력 교육을 위한 효과적이고 실제적인 방안을 제안하기 위 해, R. 루트번스타인과 M. 루트번스타인(R. Root-Bernstein & M. Root-Bernstein)의 ‘차원적 사고 (dimensional thinking)’ 개념을 사고력 교육의 중심 도구로 선정하고, 뤼크 드 브라방데르와 앨런 아이니(Luc de Brabandere & Alan Iny)의 ‘새로운 틀에서 생각하기’ 5단계 접근법을 적용하여 미술 (조형 표현)에 초점을 맞춘 ‘차원적 사고’ 훈련 모형을 고찰하였다. 또한, 이 연구는 위의 모형을 적 용한 종이조형 수업의 결과물과 수업에 참여한 대학생들의 인터뷰 및 자기평가와 동료평가를 분석 함으로써 ‘차원적 사고’ 훈련을 통한 미술교육의 가능성과 방안을 탐색하였다. 연구 결론은 다음의 세 가지이다. 첫째, 2차원과 3차원을 넘나드는 ‘차원적 사고’ 훈련은 사고의 창의적인 전환과 인지적 유연성에 대한 훈련을 제공하고, 관점과 사고 과정의 다양성에 대한 경험을 제공하기 때문에 사고 력 교육의 맥락에서 매우 필요하다. 둘째, 이 연구에서 제시한 종이조형 수업 사례는 기존의 사고 훈련 프로그램과 미술교육을 결합함으로써 미술(조형 표현)에 초점을 맞춘 ‘차원적 사고’ 훈련의 가 능성과 실제적 수업 모형을 제공한다. 셋째, ‘차원적 사고’ 훈련을 위한 미술교육(조형 수업)은 언어 중심으로 이루어지던 기존의 사고력 교육을 언어 외적인 영역으로 확장할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주 며, 사고를 시각적으로 전환함으로써 사고 훈련 과정을 쉽게 가시화할 수 있다는 점에서 유용하다. 따라서 이 연구가 사고력 교육과 미술교육에 시사하는 바는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 사고 훈련에 대한 체계적 접근법과 실제적인 모형을 학교 교과에 적용하는 방안이 모색되어야 할 것이다. 다음으로, 미술(조형 표현)과 같은 언어 외적인 방법을 통한 사고 훈련이 교육 현장에서 이루어지도록 수준별 교육 프로그램과 그에 따른 교사교육 및 연수를 개발하고 실행해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examins the model of ‘dimensional thinking’ training with the focus of visual art to suggest effective and practical ways for teaching thinking skills as the 21st century learners’ core competencies. This idea is based on the concept of ‘dimensional thinking’ devised by R. Root-Bernstein and M. Root-Bernstein and the five steps of ‘thinking in new boxes’ by Luc de Brabandere and Alan Iny. Our study also explores the possibilities and strategies of art education for the ‘dimensional thinking’ training by analyzing college students’ artworks, interviews, self and peer assessment. The conclusion of the study is as following: Firstly, the ‘dimensional thinking’ training is very important in terms of thinking education for it provides the training activities for creative thinking and cognitive flexibility, and the experiences of diverse perspectives and thinking processes. Secondly, by combining an existing thinking training method and art education, a case of paper art class in this study provides possibilities and a practical model of ‘dimensional thinking’ training with the focus of visual art. Lastly, art education for ‘dimensional thinking’ training has shows the possibilities for expanding an existing language-centered thinking education towards the visual one. This thinking training is also useful for it makes the thinking process visible. Therefore, the study suggests the following implications: We should seek systematic ways and actual models of thinking training to apply them to various school subjects, and develop and implement thinking training programs with the focus of visual art for each school level along with teacher education programs.
