디지털 인문학적 방법론을 통해 고찰한 ‘다문화 공생’과 재일코리안 : 1990년 이후 『아사히신문』의 데이터베이스를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 『아사히신문』의 데이터베이스에서 1990년부터 2024년 9월 30일까지의 기사 44,300건을 추출한 후, 이들 중 ‘다문화공생’과 관련된 기사 1,437건의 신문기사를 선정하여 이를 대상으로 분석을 진행하였다. 전체 재일과 관련된 기사는 국내외 정세의 변화의 직접적인 영향 하에 전반적인 기사 수와 주제 등의 변화가 두드러지게 나타나는 양상을 보였으며, 이는 ‘다문화공생’을 키워드로 하는 기사에서 역시 예외는 아니었다. ‘다문화공생’과 관련된 기사는 1990년대 초반에 이미 등장하기 시작하여 1999년을 기점으로 정점에 도달하였고, 이후 꾸준한 하락세를 보이다 2011년을 기점으로 급락하게 된다. 2020년대에 들어 이러한 하락세는 점차 회복되었으며, 이는 일본 내 정주외국인의 증가가 직접적인 영향을 미쳤을 것으로 판단된다. 주제별로 살펴보면, ‘다문화공생’과 관련된 기사 대부분은 후속세대의 교육을 위한 내용이 주를 이루고 있으며, 역사 문제와 참정권, 헤이트 스피치나 차별과 관련된 논의 역시 지속적으로 이루어지고 있었음을 알 수 있다. 질적분석을 통해서도 유의미한 결과를 확인할 수 있다. 1990년대부터 2020년대까지의 재일외국인 관련 기사에서는 꾸준한 변화가 드러난다. 1980년대까지 실질적으로 재일외국인=재일코리안을 의미하는 상황에서 1990년대 이후 뉴커머 재일외국인이 증가하면서 새로운 문제의 제기를 확인할 수 있다. 반면 재일코리안이 재일외국인에서 차지하는 비율이 감소하는 상황에서도 재일외국인 정책과 담론을 주도하는 모습을 확인할 수 있다. 동시에 일본 언론에서도 다문화공생 정책에서 재일코리안이 재일외국인 사이에서의 주도적 역할을 기대했던 모습을 확인할 수 있다. 이와 같은 양상 변화를 통해 기존 재일외국인=재일코리안 구도에서 벗어나 재일코리안이 재일외국인의 일부로 위치하는 변화양상과 역할론 등을 총체적으로 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This This study analyzed 44,300 articles extracted from the Asahi Newspaper database, spanning the period from 1990 to September 30, 2024. Among these, 1,437 articles specifically related to “multicultural coexistence” were selected for detailed examination. Articles concerning resident foreigners showed significant changes in both quantity and themes, heavily influenced by domestic and international political developments. This trend was equally evident in articles focusing on “multicultural coexistence.” Such articles began appearing in the early 1990s, peaked in 1999, and then steadily declined, with a sharp drop observed around 2011. In the 2020s, this downward trend began to reverse, likely driven by the increasing number of long-term foreign residents in Japan. Thematically, most articles on “multicultural coexistence” emphasized the education of second-generation foreigners, while discussions on historical issues, voting rights, hate speech, and discrimination also continued to surface. Qualitative analysis provided further significant insights. Articles on resident foreigners from the 1990s to the 2020s revealed a consistent evolution. Until the 1980s, “resident foreigners” primarily referred to Zainichi Koreans. However, the increase in “newcomer” resident foreigners during the 1990s brought new issues to light. Despite the declining proportion of Zainichi Koreans among resident foreigners, they maintained a leading role in shaping policies and discourse concerning this demographic. Japanese media also demonstrated expectations for Zainichi Koreans to play a central role in multicultural coexistence policies. These observations indicate a transition from the traditional equation of “resident foreigners = Zainichi Koreans” to positioning Zainichi Koreans as one subset of resident foreigners, illustrating their evolving roles and relationships within broader societal discourses.
