국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 연극모형론이라는 이론적 전제와 사회적 자아를 탐구하는 자문화기술지(auto-ethnography)의 방법론적 전제에 기초하여 한 초임교사의 교직사회화 관련 생존전략을 기술하는 데 있다. 연구결과를 간략하게 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 초임교사였던 나는 교직원들에게 순응적으로 보이기 위해 연약한 ‘병아리’의 탈을 쓰는 인상관리를 하였다. 둘째, 초임교사였던 나는 초등학생들에게 인정받는 교사가 되기 위해 온화한 ‘강아지’의 탈을 쓰는 인상을 관리하였다. 셋째, 나는 학부모들로부터 신뢰와 존경을 얻기 위해 인내심이 있는 ‘곰’의 탈을 쓰는 인상을 관리하였다. 이러한 3가지 인상관리는 학교 구성원들에게 유능한 교사라는 직업적 이미지를 심어주기 위한 생존전략이었다. 이 연구의 결과는 초등학교 초임교사의 교직사회화를 위한 직업적 생존전략을 내부자의 관점에서 재현함으로써 초임교사의 직업적 삶에 대한 이해를 심화하고, 초임교사의 교직사회화 과정을 지원할 수 있는 정책적 관점을 제공할 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this paper is to describe a beginning teacher’s teaching socialization process with a focus on survival strategies, based on the theoretical premise of dramaturgy and the methodological premise of autoethnography, which explores the social self. The research results are briefly presented as follows. Firstly, as a novice elementary school teacher, I did impression management by putting on the mask of a weak ‘chick’ to appear compliant to the teaching staff. Secondly, as a novice teacher, I managed to give the impression of wearing a cozy ‘puppy’ mask in order to become a teacher recognized by elementary school students. Thirdly, I managed to give the impression of wearing the mask of a patient ‘bear’ to gain trust and respect from parents. These three types of impression management were survival strategies to instill a professional image of a competent teacher among school members. The results of this paper will deepen understanding of the professional life of beginning elementary school teacher by representing professional survival strategies for teaching socialization from an insider’s perspective, and provide a policy perspective that can support the teaching socialization process of beginning elementary school teacher.
