국문 초록

지방자치제와 글로컬리즘은 지역 정체성과 지역문화(문학)에 대한 관심을 갖게 했다. 1972년생 동년배인 이기호와 김희선은 유니크하고 재기발랄한 문학세계를 구축하며 2000년대 문학의 대표작가로 평가받고 있다. 원주 출신 및 거주 작가인 두 소설가에게 원주시(W시)는 창작소재의 원천이자 무한한 상상력을 제공하는 문학공간으로 인식된다. 유명작가의 이사와 부산 미문화원 방화사건은 이기호에게 원주시를 규명하는 역사적 사건으로 기억되며, 197,80년대 중소도시의 삶을 우리 시대의 원형으로 이해한다. 군사도시면서 반골적인 정서를 지닌 원주는 폭력과 고문, 인권유린, 일자리 부재와 청년백수 양산, 평생 대출이자로 고통받는 소시민의 일상과 아파트 욕망, 미국 편향과 아메리칸 드림, 레드 콤플렉스 등의 공간으로 동시대적 의미를 지닌다. 김희선은 미래의 지점에서 외계인의 등장을 통해 W시의 일상을 묘사한다. 이방인, 난민, 타자로 상징되는 외계인을 대하는 태도는 오늘의 현실과 다르지 않다. 타자 배척과 혐오, 낯설고 이질적인 것에 대한 공포와 분노를 패러디, 콜라주, 비재현, 판타지 등의 방식으로 구현하는 그녀의 소설은 글로컬 다문화 포스트휴먼 시대의 MZ세대 독자에게도 흥미롭게 읽힌다. 작품배경의 시간성과 상상력의 차이를 보이는 두 작가는 원주시(W시)를 배경으로 중소도시민의 애환과 고통을 그리며 타자의 목소리에 귀 기울인다. 또한 우리가 신봉하는 역사적 필연성, 절대진리, 과학적 사실이란 지극히 우연적이고 오인으로 인한 왜곡과 소문, 언론, 행정조직의 조작과 실수로 인한 허구임을 밝히고, ‘차남’, ‘외계인’으로 표상되는 비가시적 비가청적인 타자들을 소환하여 역사와 가문, 문화에 기입되지 못하는 이들의 존재감을 드러내며 타자의 상처에 주목한다. 이기호, 김희선은 독창적이고 유니크한 공간적 상상력을 바탕으로 원주시(W시)를 한국사회의 축도이자 로컬문화로 알레고리화하였다.

영문 초록

Local autonomy and glocalism increased interest in local identity and culture(literature). Both Lee Gi-ho and Kim Hee-seon were born in 1972, creating a unique brilliant literary world and establishing themselves as representatives of literature in the 2000s. For these two authors that were born and live in Wonju, the city offers them a cradle of creation and literary space of infinite imagination. Lee remembers a well-known author’s move and the arson case of the American Culture Center in Busan as historical events to investigate Wonju City. He understands life in a small- or medium-sized city in the 1970s and 1980s as an archetype of our times. As a military city, Wonju is treasonous. The city holds contemporary meanings covering violence and torture, violation of human rights, absence of jobs, mass production of unemployed youth, the daily life of petit bourgeois suffering lifetime loan rates, desire for an apartment, inclination toward the U.S.A. and the American Dream, and the commie complex. Kim Hee-seon depicts daily lives in Wonju City through aliens appearing at a future point. In her works, characters take an attitude not different from today’s reality toward aliens representing outsiders, refugees, and others. Displaying exclusion and hatred against others and fear and anger for something strange and heterogeneous in such ways as parody, bricolage, non-reproduction, and fantasy, her literature is fit for the MZ generation in the glocal multicultural posthuman era. Having differences in the temporality of backgrounds and imagination, the two authors depict the suffering and pain of citizens living in a small- or medium-sized city with Wonju as a microcosm of South Korean society and representation of local culture as well as their literary space. They show that historical necessity, absolute truth, and scientific facts that people believe are fictions based on very accidental and misleading distortion, rumor, the press, and manipulations and mistakes by an administrative organization. By summoning invisible and inaudible others represented by “second sons” and “aliens,” they confirm their presence not included in history, family, and culture and pay attention to the wounds of others.
