지명 분포에서 확인되는 지명 어휘의 지역적 특성에 대하여

국문 초록

이 연구는 최근 간행된 『원주 지명 총람』과, 무주 부근의 지명을 대조 연구하는 데 있다. 이 대조 연구는 두 지역의 지명 표현이 유표적･무표적으로 보이는 개별성을 확인하는 기술적 특성과, 각 지역의 지명 자료의 특성을 확인하는 방법론적 의의를 갖는다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 두 지역에서 지금까지 조사된 자료를 종합하여 기본 자료로 삼고, 이를 지칭 대상에 따라 자연물 유형과 인공물 유형으로 크게 나누고 자연물지칭 대상은 세 부류, 인공물 지칭 대상은 다섯 부류로 나누어 지명을 일괄 분류하였다. 이런 분류 방식을 적용함으로써 각 지명 유형에서 두 지역 지명 표현이 보이는 개별성을 유형화하여 서술하였다. 이와 같은 방법을 적용하여, 지명 탐구의 방법론적 문제점을 종합하고, 지명 기술에 필요한 본고의 관점을 추출하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This paper aims at contrastive analysis of place names of two distant regions, i.e. Wonju, Gangwon and Muju, Jeonbuk. The data used in this analysis are Wonju Jimyeong Chongram for Wonju, and the individual data surveyed by the author for Muju, which include Hanguk Jimyeong Chongram data. For this analysis, I classified the place names by place class. For one, I classify the place names as ‘place names for natural places,’ and for another as ‘place names for artifacts.’ Though some place names are difficult to classify, this procedure is necessary for further analysis. First of all, this contrastive analysis is meaningful for descriptive purpose, as we had have few results about searching the properties of Korean place names whether that properties are expressed in the name or not. And for the second, this analysis can suggest some methodological insights for further fieldwork. After this survey, it is come some linguistic peculiarities out. Some place name peculiarities are bound to referents. And some place name peculiarities are regional, which is needed further survey. In sum, we can get some methodologica and linguistic hints from this survey.
