업사이클링 개념을 적용한 현대도자 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 현대사회에 심각한 자연환경의 파괴를 불러오는 폐기물 활용의 일환으로 새롭게 대두되고 있는 업사이클링에 주목하고, 폐도자기에 디자인과 아이디어를 더하여 새로운 창작활동을 하는 작가들의 작품을 분석하여 재활용과 환경보호의 중요성을 환기시킴과 동시에 산업 폐기물인 폐도자기의 업사이클링이 창의적인 융복합으로 동시대 미술의 새로운 표현 전략이 될 수 있음을 알리는데 목적이 있다. 이에 따른 연구 방법으로 국·내외 기업들이 폐재료를 활용하는 사례를 분석하고 업사이클 디자인이 지닌 4가지 가치 요소로 환경의 지속가능적 가치, 사회의 윤리적 가치, 자원의 경제적 가치, 예술의 창조적 가치를 도출하였다. 본 연구 결과 버려진 폐도자기에 새로운 디자인이 더해지면서 재료 간의 재해석을 통하여 창의적 융복합으로 발전하고 있었으며, 제로 웨이스트(Zero-waste)를 향한 작가 차원의 업사이클링 작품 제작은 환경적 측면의 가치뿐만 아니라 예술의 창조적 측면에 부합됨을 확인하였다. 또한 작가들의 업사이클링을 통한 다양한 디자인 개발과 여러 콘텐츠의 활용은 폐도자기를 순환자원으로 인식하고 재사용함으로 인하여 올바른 경제적 가치와 소비문화로 견인하였다. 이와 같은 업사이클링 작품 연구가 현대 예술의 패러다임을 더 확장시키고 앞으로 나아갈 방향을 제시해주길 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study focused on upcycling, which is emerging as a form of waste utilization that is causing serious destruction of the natural environment in modern society. Therefore, we analyze the works of artists who create new creative activities by adding designs and ideas to waste ceramics, and raise awareness of the importance of recycling and environmental protection. At the same time, the purpose is to inform people that upcycling of waste ceramics, which is industrial waste, can become a new expression strategy for contemporary art through creative convergence. As a research method, we analyzed cases where domestic and foreign companies use waste materials.And the four value elements of upcycle design were derived: sustainable value of the environment, ethical value of society, economic value of resources, and creative value of art. As a result of this study, it was found that new designs were added to discarded ceramics, developing into creative convergence through reinterpretation of materials. It was confirmed that the artist's production of upcycling works aimed at zero waste is not only in line with environmental values, but also the creative aspect of art. In addition, artists' development of various designs through upcycling and use of various contents led to correct economic value and consumption culture by recognizing and reusing waste ceramics as a circular resource. We hope that research on upcycling works like this will further expand the paradigm of modern art and suggest a future direction.
