국문 초록

小訥 盧相稷(1855-1931)은 근대전환기 영남 지역의 대표 유학자이다. 『四書疑解』는 청년기의 노상직이 기호남인 許傳의 문하에서 朱子의 『四書集註』를 학습하던 중에 생긴 여러 의문과 해답을 정리한 책이다. 그 가운데 『大學』 해석의 양상을 개괄하고자 한다. 『대학』이 주자학 입문서인 까닭에 이에 대한 노상직의 견해가 그 학문 성향을 파악하는 데 유용한 단서가 된다고 여겨지기 때문이다. 『사서의해』를 통해 남인과 노론 등 학파를 막론하고 두루 수용하는 노상직의 유연한 학문 태도를 엿볼 수 있다. ｢大學疑解｣는 『사서의해』 중 『대학』해석을 이른다. ｢대학의해｣의 구성을 검토한 결과 그 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 『대학장구』 체계의 준수다. 둘째, 주자 설의 부연과 보완이다. 셋째, 노론과 남인을 망라한 제설의 수용이다. 넷째, 다양한 해석 방식의 활용이다. 그 『대학』 해석의 양상을 검토한 결과 그 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 내용 상 체계ㆍ개념ㆍ知行으로 나눌 수 있다. 둘째, 체계의 해석은 『대학장구』 체계의 해명과 관련이 있다. 셋째, 개념의 해석은 조선 주자학파의 다양한 학설을 두루 수용한 사례이다. 넷째, 知行의 해석은 성호학파의 학문 성향과 관련이 있다. 이는 조선후기 근기 지역의 실증적 학풍과 관련이 있다. 아마도 자신의 스승인 성호학파 허전을 통해 접한 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

Noh Sang-jik (Sonul) was an outside Confucian scholar representing the Gyeongsang-do (southeastern) region during the transition to the modern era. This study focused on Noh Sang-jik's book on Chinese classics, 『Saseo Euihae』 (Questions and Answers on the Four Books)」, an appropriate book to understand the academic grounds and inclination. 『Saseo Euihae』 is a book of various questions and answers that Noh Sang-jik had while studying Chutzu's 『Four Books with Notes』 under Heo Jeon, a Southerner of the West Central region, during his younger years. This study focused on interpreting 『Daehak (Great Learning)』because 『Daehaks』is an introduction to Confucianism, and Noh Sang-jik's views on it are considered helpful in understanding his academic inclination. Through 『Saseo Euihae』, it is possible to glimpse Noh Sang-jik's objective academic attitude of accepting Confucian teachings regardless of school, including Southern School and Old School. ｢Daehak Euihae｣ refers to the interpretation of 『Daehaks』 among 『Saseo (Four Books). As a result of reviewing the composition of ｢Daehak Euihae｣, its characteristics were as follows: First, compliance with the 『Daehak Janggu』(verses and paragraphs) system. Second, it is an elaboration and complement to Chutzu’s theory. Third, it accepts overall theories, including those of the Old School and Southern School. Fourth, it used various interpretation methods. As a result of examining the essence of the interpretation of 『Daehak』, its characteristics were as follows: First, in terms of content, it can be divided into system, knowledge and conduct, and concept. Second, system-related interpretation is related to elucidating the 『Daehak Janggu』 system. Third, the interpretation of knowledge and behavior is related to the classics of the Seongho School. Fourth, the concept-related interpretation gives a specific example compromising various theories of the Chutzu Schools of Joseon. This is all related to the empirical academic traditions that had been popular in the regions close to the capital since the 18th century. It is presumed that he learned these traditions through his teacher, Heo Jeon. This indicates that the local academic traditions widely influenced Noh Sang-jik.
