국문 초록

이 글은 1990년대 부산연극의 혁신과 변화를 이끈 ‘부산연극제작소 동녘’의 창단 이념과 과정, 공연 활동을 실증적으로 고찰하는 데 목적을 두었다. 부산연극제작소 동녘은 1995년 창단 이후 실험적이고 독창적인 작품활동을 지속하며 부산연극사회의 중추적 역할을 해오고 있다. 이들의 행보를 통해 1990년대 이후 부산연극의 흐름과 지역에서 직업극단으로 명맥을 유지하기 위한 다양한 시도를 읽을 수 있었다. 부산연극제작소 동녘은 동문극단이라는 특수한 정체성을 가지고 출발했으나 과감하게 문호를 개방하여 실력 있는 부산연극인들을 영입하고 현재까지 의미 있는 활동을 전개하였다. 극단의 역량 향상, 예비연극인 양성, 지역연극인의 자존감 고취, 연극인으로서의 자기 정체성 강화 프로그램을 들 수 있다. 특히 상임단원 10여 명이 활동하고 있다는 점, 작품 선정이 전 단원의 참여로 이루어진다는 점, 공동창작을 통해 지속적으로 작품을 제작한다는 점은 다른 극단에서 쉽게 발견할 수 없는 이 극단만의 특징이었다. 이를 통해 부산연극의 질적 수준을 드높이고 부산연극의 생태계를 든든하게 구축하는 데 이바지할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study aims to empirically examine the founding ideology, process, and performance activities of ‘Busan Theater Company Dongnyeok’, which which led to innovation and change in Busan theater in the 1990s. Since its founding in 1995, Busan Theater Company Dongnyeok has been playing a pivotal role in Busan's theater community by continuing to produce experimental and original works. Through their work, it was possible to read the flow of Busan theater since the 1990s and various attempts to maintain their reputation as a professional theater company in the region. Busan Theater Company Dongnyeok started with a special identity as an alumni theater company, but it boldly opened its doors to recruit talented Busan theater artists and has has carried out meaningful activities to date. Its programs include improving the troupe's capabilities, training prospective thespians, raising the self-esteem of local thespians, and strengthening their self-identity as thespians. In particular, the fact that 10 permanent members are active, the fact that the selection of works is made with the participation of all members, and the fact that the company continuously produces works through co-creation are unique features of the company that cannot be easily found in other theaters. This has contributed to raising the quality level of Busan theater and building a strong ecosystem for Busan theater.
