미술치료사들의 메타버스 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 미술치료 분야에서의 메타버스 적용 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었으며 미술치료사들의 메타버스 플랫폼 제페토 경험이 어떠하였고 그 의미는 무엇인지 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 질적 연구의 방법 중 내러티브 탐구의 방법론을 통해 미술치료사들의 메타버스 경험을 살펴보았다. 연구를 위하여 메타버스 활용에 관심이 있고 임상 경력이 2년 이상인 미술치료사 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였으며, 2021년 10월 19일부터 2021년 11월 4일까지 각 60분씩 주 2회 총 6번의 메타버스 경험을 위한 비대면 만남을 진행하였다. 이후 구체적인 경험을 반영하기 위해 미술작업과 서면 인터뷰를 추가로 진행하였다. 미술치료사들의 메타버스 경험에 관한 이야기를 기반으로 도출한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제페토를 통한 메타버스 경험은 미술치료사들이 자신을 욕구를 탐색하고 표현하는 또 다른 기회를 제공하였다. 둘째, 낯선 가상 공간에서의 만남은 조작의 미숙함과 불분명한 경계 등으로 인해 혼란을 주었다. 셋째, 미술작업으로 경험의 의미를 담아내는 과정을 통해 전문가로서 실천적 지식을 만들어낼 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 이들의 내러티브가 갖는 의미를 확장하여 미술치료 분야에서 메타버스가 새로운 매체이자 치료자원으로 활용될 수 있는 적용 가능성에 관하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study delves into the burgeoning potential of the Metaverse for art therapy by examining the experiences of art therapists on the platform ZEPETO. It specifically seeks to investigate the feasibility of applying the Metaverse in art therapy settings and uncover the nuanced experiences and interpretations of art therapists within the ZEPETO platform. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative research approach - narrative inquiry - was employed. Five art therapists possessing over two years of clinical experience and demonstrating enthusiasm for exploring the Metaverse were recruited as participants. Over three weeks, from October 19, 2021, to November 4, 2021, they engaged in six non-face-to-face, hour-long Metaverse sessions on ZEPETO, occurring twice a week. To deepen our understanding of their experiences, participants were subsequently invited to create artworks and participate in written interviews reflecting on their ZEPETO journeys. Through insightful narrative analysis of the art therapists’ experiences, the study yielded the following key findings. Firstly, ZEPETO presented a novel avenue for art therapists to explore and express their creative desires, offering unique therapeutic possibilities. Secondly, initial interactions within the unfamiliar virtual environment evoked feelings of confusion, stemming from unfamiliarity with the platform’s controls and the ambiguity of boundaries within the Metaverse. Thirdly, the process of translating their Metaverse experiences into artworks served as a catalyst for the creation of practical knowledge, contributing to the development of expert-informed therapeutic approaches. Lastly, analysis of the narratives not only enriched the understanding of the Metaverse’s therapeutic potential but also initiated a broader discussion regarding its broader applicability within the field of art therapy.
