국문 초록

이 논문은 장공 김재준의 예레미야 해석을 중심으로 예언자의 시심(詩心) 발현과 명징(明徵)한 현실 인식에 대하여 연구하였다. 장공 김재준은 한국기독교장로회와 조선신학교(현재 한신대학교)의 근간(根幹)이며, 한국 기독교사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 대표적인 신학자다. 또한, 그는 한국 기독교의 역사뿐 아니라 ‘한국의 현대사’라는 현실 안에서 예언자적 양심을 실천한 지도자로서 일컬어진다. 그의 예언자적 삶의 궤적은 말과 글이 나타내는 신념과 따로 있지 않았다. 그럼에도 예언자적 양심 실천의 기반이 되는 장공의 예언자에 대한 이해와 신념은 명료하게 연구되거나 인식되고 있지 않다. 장공 김재준의 예언자적 실천은 즉흥적인 것이 아니라 구약학자로서의 학문적 통찰과 시대를 정확하게 꿰뚫어 보는 현실 인식에서 나온 것이다. 장공은 예언서 가운데 예레미야를 읽으면서 한국의 현실을 탄식하며 생각하였고, “눈물과 피와 힘으로 짜내인 예레미야의 일생”을 읽음으로 현실에 안주하거나 이상을 포기하지 않았다. 이 논문은 구약학자인 장공 김재준의 예레미야 해석을 중심으로 그의 예언 이해를 살펴본다. 장공은 예레미야를 청년 시인으로 칭하고 예레미야서를 시의 모음집으로 정의한다. 예언자의 사명과 역할을 사사로움(私意)이 없는 공적 삶으로 이해하는 장공의 예언 이해는 시심의 발현으로 규정할 수 있다. 또한 이 논문은 장공이 “전기적으로 본 예레미야의 내면 생활”에서 예레미야를 전기적인 순서에 따라 재구성하면서, 구약성서학의 난제 가운데 하나인 요시야의 종교적 운동에 침묵한 예레미야의 문제를 논의하는 것을 주목하여 살핀다. 장공은 예레미야가 요시야의 운동에 냉정하게 방관한 것이 아니라 찬의를 표했을 것으로 가정하면서, 여러 증거를 통하여 예레미야서를 연대기적으로 재구성한다. 장공은 이러한 재구성을 통하여 예언자란 환상이나 이상을 무아의 신비경에서 홀로 즐기는 따위의 사람이 아니라 구체적이고 역사적인 현실을 누구보다 명징하게 보는 사람이라는 것을 강조한다. 그는 예레미야에 대한 전기적인 재구성을 통하여 예언자의 역할과 사명의 핵심을 ‘시심의 발현’으로 제시하면서, 예언이란 시심의 발현을 통해 구체적인 역사 속에서 명징하게 현실을 꿰뚫어 보며 이상을 제시하는 것으로 드러내고 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis studies the manifestation of the prophet’s poetic mind and manifest perception of reality, focusing on Jang Gong Kim Jae-Jun’s interpretation of Jeremiah. Jang Gong Kim Jae-Jun is the founder of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK) and among the first faculty of Chosun Theological Seminary (currently Hanshin University). He is a theologian who represents an important moment in the history of Korean Christianity. In addition, he is said to be a leader who practiced prophetic conscience not only in the history of Korean Christianity but also in the reality of Korea’s modern history. The trajectory of his prophetic life was not separate from the beliefs expressed in his words and writings. Nevertheless, Jang Gong’s understanding and beliefs about the prophets, which are the basis for practicing prophetic conscience, are not clearly studied or recognized. Jang Gong Kim Jae-Jun’s prophetic practice was not spontaneous, but came from his academic insight as an Old Testament scholar. This scholarly approach help him accurately penetrate the times. Jang Gong interpreted Korea’s reality while reading the book of Jeremiah, which he said was “written with tears, blood, and strength.” This thesis examines Old Testament scholar Kim Jae-Jun’s understanding of prophecy, focusing on his interpretation of Jeremiah. In the above article, Jang Gong refers to Jeremiah as a poet and defines the Book of Jeremiah as a collection of poems. According to Eastern tradition, ‘poetry’ is understood as something without personal interests, and Jang Gong’s mission and role as a prophet can be understood as a manifestation of poetry. This thesis focuses on Jang Gong’s discussion of the problem of Jeremiah’s silence during Josiah’s reformation, one of the difficult problems in Old Testament studies, while reconstructing Jeremiah’s inner biographical process, “The Inner Life of Jeremiah Viewed Biographically.” Jang Gong sets the background of Jeremiah’s important activities in the middle of the era of Josiah, known as a good king among Israel’s kings, and assumes that Jeremiah did not coldly understand Josiah’s reforms but rather expressed his approval. The reason Jang Gong reconstructs the Book of Jeremiah chronologically is to emphasize that a prophet is not a person who enjoys illusions or ideals alone in mystical selflessness, but a person who sees concrete and historical reality more clearly than anyone else. Through his biographical reconstruction of Jeremiah, Jang Gong shows the role and mission of a prophet as a manifestation of his will, and reveals that prophecy is something that clearly penetrates reality and presents an ideal within a specific history.
